Martha N. Langford passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by her daughter, grandson, and son-in-law. She was born on April 17, 19??. There were two things she always insisted on: never telling her middle name or age. She lived with her parents, Watie and Rhoda (Arnold) Buttram in the Hulen community of Cotton County, OK. She lived in Stigler, OK from 1935 to 1944 and attended schools at Keota and Prairie Dell in Haskell County. She returned to Lawton in 1947 and graduated from Lawton High School.
She married Fred Langford on April 15, 1950 in Lawton. They resided in Cox's Community east of Lawton, "Langford Land", since 1978. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1991.
Her first job was Pure Ice Cream from 1948 to 1949 because one day her father simply stopped the car and said for her to go in and apply for a job at the store because she would do a good job. She then worked for Retail Merchants Association and Davis Moving and Storage in 1953. She worked at Fort Sill at Directorate of Engineers from 1954-1965; Ft Sill Finance and Accounting Office from 1965-1974, DIO Budget in 1975 and Resource Management Division of Reynolds Army Community Hospital From 1976-1989, retiring with a total of 35 years Federal Civilian Service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
She was a charter member of Brockland Free Will Baptist Church, serving in many volunteer and teaching positions, including twenty-five years as church clerk.
She leaves behind an abundant legacy of faith and love. Her hobbies included gardening, a never- ending list of projects on the farm, and spending time with her family. Her famous Indian tacos, chocolate gravy, and Christmas candies recipes will live on.
She is survived by one daughter and her husband; Carol Jean and Dr. Joe Langley of Tulsa. Nana to four grandchildren and their spouses and nine great-grandchildren. Granddaughters include: Kimberly Hurst Beals and husband, Taylor, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Beth Langley Dean and husband Jerry of Norman, Oklahoma, and Emily Langley P and husband J of Charlotte, North Carolina; one grandson, Derrick Hurst, and wife, Melissa, of Lawrence, Kansas.
Her nine great grandchildren include: Cyan Beals Valdes (and husband, Hunter) and Samuel Beals of Tennessee.
Ainsley and Evelyn Hurst of Kansas, Jordan and Max Dean of Oklahoma, Langley, Phillip, and Ragnar P of North Carolina. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred Langford, five brothers, Edmond, Doyle, Kenneth, Loal, and Loy Buttram and two sisters, Vivian Williamson and Reba Denton.
There were two things always included when her family gathered together- singing hymns and having homemade ice cream. Martha's celebration of life will continue the tradition.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Special thanks to Aberdeen Heights Assisted Living of Tulsa, OK and Carter Hospice.
