Marilyn Ann Monroe-Brewer passed away peacefully at her mother's home on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 8:30 pm after a short but tough battle with cancer. Her family said she was so determined to win against this disease and she fought so hard to beat it but it finally won, her body was so tired that she succumbed to it.
Services for Marilyn Ann Monroe-Brewer of Lawton, Oklahoma will be held at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home (located at 1502 NW Fort Sill Blvd Lawton, OK) on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:00pm. Following the service will be a celebration of Marilyn's life with the gathering of friends and family at the local VFW located at 103 NE 20th street, Lawton, OK. Services will be officiated by Rev, Mark Henslee, Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Lawton.
Marilyn was born in Russell, Kansas on October 23, 1961. She was the daughter of the late retired SGM Clifford Monroe, because of his military career Marilyn has lived at several different military bases in Kansas, Germany and finally Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he retired. Clifford was the one that actually chose her name, hence, "Marilyn Monroe". Marilyn is survived by her mother Heidemarie Monroe (Heide is also battling cancer. She and her daughter Marilyn were diagnosed less than 2 weeks apart with terminal cancer), sons Jason Brewer (Meghann) and Christopher Race-Brewer, brother Clifford Monroe, sister Shirley Loden (Jim), nieces Deborah Chambers (Brian Hampton), April Long, Crystal Underwood (Jason), great-nephews Caden Long, Caleb Long, Jadon Underwood, Camren Underwood, and many cousins.
For those of you that knew Marilyn you know how big her heart was. For those of you who didn't have the pleasure of knowing her let me fill you in with just a few details......her love for animals was beyond anything you can imagine. She personally did without for so many years just to be able to afford to buy food for any stray cat or dog that came along. At one point when she lived in Cache Oklahoma she had 3 large dogs and 11+ cats "in" her house and an outside colony of cats that she fed daily. When she would buy a T-shirt for herself she would feel so guilty because of the food she "could have bought" for the animals.
Her love for people was just as strong, she would give away her last dollar if she saw someone in need. Her sister recalled a time when they went to Walmart because Marilyn needed to pick up a few things. Marilyn proceeds to get a man's coat, a scarf, gloves and a backpack....she then filled the backpack with trail mixes and other snacks plus she bought a collar and leash, dog food, a dog sweater and treats for his dog, this was all for a homeless man she saw on a few occasions that she was worried about because winter was just around the corner.
This is the kind of person she was. Her family can just picture her in heaven surrounded by all of the animals that she couldn't rescue or that passed away from age or health issues.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the CCMH Foundation. One of Marilyn's bucket list items was to go to Disney World (which was planned for January 2019) and when she was admitted into the hospital on Halloween night we knew that this trip was not going to happen. After the family spoke to Hospice and told them this they rented a Mickey and Minnie Mouse costume and visited Marilyn at home, her face just lit up the entire room, this moment is something the family will never forget. This organization also came up funds to help cover Marilyn's hospital and Cancer Center bills, which was well over $200,000.
