Obituary

Margie D. Hendrick, 95, of The Woodlands, TX passed away on August 26, 2019.  A long-time resident of Lawton, Marge was born in Marlow, OK on November 10, 1923 to Roy and Minnie Autry.  In 1946 she married Finis Hendrick and enjoyed 57 years of married life with him.  They moved to Monterrey, CA in 1949 where Finis attended the Armed Forces Language School before reporting to Caracas, Venezuela where he served as an engineer adviser to the Venezuelan government for three years.  During his years in the Air Force they also lived in Texas and Alabama, and then upon release from the Air Force they returned to Lawton to raise their family.

Marge was a member of the Wives' Auxiliary of the Oklahoma Society of Professional Engineers, and was active with the Brownies and the PTA at Whittier School where she was a room mother for many years.  She was also an active member of First Baptist Church and she taught Sunday School for preschool children.

Marge was a skilled seamstress and avid crafter.  Through the years she designed and made beautiful clothes for her daughters and granddaughters and even a few items for the grandsons!  She crocheted and made macramé hangings.  She loved to read and was a formidable opponent in Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit.  She was the Number One fan of the Oklahoma Sooners.  Most of all she will be remembered as a caring person who passed her Christian values on to her children and grandchildren.

Marge and Finis loved to travel.  They visited many states in the U.S. with their children when they were young, and later expanded their travels to Europe, Canada and Mexico.  They were also generous in providing many opportunities to vacation with their children and grandchildren in locations from the West Coast to New England.  After Finis retired, they moved to The Woodlands in 2002 and joined The Woodlands United Methodist Church.  She resided at The Forum in The Woodlands for the past twelve years.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Ann and Ken Bierut, Canton, CT, and Lynne and Russ Archer, The Woodlands; seven grandchildren: Brian, Michael and Kelly Bierut, Adam Archer and wife Shauna, Chelle McGowan and husband John, Melissa Hendrick and Paul Hendrick and wife Lani; four great grandchildren:  Ava Archer, Jay and Gavin McGowan, Dexter Hendrick and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son James Edward Hendrick and her brothers Brett Autry and Burl Autry.

Graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2019 in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
