Funeral service for Marge E. Welch, 91, Lawton, will be 1:30 pm Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Welch died Thursday, January 17, 2013 in a local hospital. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. Marge was born April 29, 1921 in Cement, Oklahoma to David Jefferson and Ruth E. (Trimble) Welch. She was the oldest of five children. She graduated from Lawton High School and attended one year at Cameron College. At this time in her life Marge Welch was far ahead of the feminist movement. She entered the typing pool at Fort Sill army post and quickly rose through the ranks to become Chief of Protocol at Fort Sill and retired in December of 1981. Her job was to plan events and dinners for foreign and domestic V.I.P.'s that were being entertained at Fort Sill. One of her favorite V.I.P.'s was Mamie Eisenhower who visited Fort Sill frequently, always having Marge in her presence. Marge had the unique opportunity to serve in a special capacity. She had such talents to welcome officers and noncommissioned officers in her friendly way. She also received the "Molly Pitcher Medal" for her service to the Fort Sill army post. Marge had another wonderful life after she retired. She accompanied many family members on cruises, including trips to celebrate Christmas, Thanksgiving and a few trips just for more fun. The family would love to state publicly that she had two excellent doctors (Dr. Ismael & Dr. Reddy) and the best nurses in NTU at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. Thank you one and all for your friendship and devotion. Survivors include her brother, Paul and his wife Reba, Wichita Falls, Texas, special daughter, Krissy Keith and her son Colton, Lawton, three nephews, David Earl Welch and his wife Leslie, Michael Welch and his wife Sandra, Allen Lazenby, Jr. and his wife Denise, six nieces, Sheryl Flewallen and husband Walter, Vicki Jean Stacks, Alisa Welch, Stephanie Willis and her husband Rory, Karen Mireles and Carla Fellowes.
