With hearts full of love, we honor the life of Margaretha Maria Groves, affectionately known as Omi by her grandchildren, who peacefully passed away in Colorado Springs, CO.
Margaret was born on April 5, 1942, in Munich, Germany, to Heinrich Einsiedler and Anna Pongratz. Despite the war-torn world she was born into, she grew into a woman defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Her life's greatest joy began when she met Donald (Don) D. Groves in a small café in Grafenwohr, Germany. Over a simple game of cards, they began what would become a beautiful love story. They were married on June 16, 1959, and for over 50 years shared a deep and steadfast love while raising their family together.
When Margaret came to the United States from Germany, English was not her first language, and she didn't yet have a driver's license. With an independent spirit and determination, she learned to drive, mastered the English language, and proudly earned her U.S. citizenship. She accomplished all of this while raising two little girls and supporting her husband's Army career. While Don served, she "held down the fort" with incredible courage.
Margaret was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Don, her father Heinrich, her mother Anna, and her sister Sieglinda Carrasco.
She is lovingly remembered by her brother Siegfred (Christa) Einsiedler of Germany; her daughters Marcella (Felix) Sanchez of Texas and Cindy (Nick) Lovenburg of Colorado; her cherished grandchildren Christopher Sanchez, Felicia (J.P.) Camacho, Virginia Sanchez (Vincent) Amaya, Natalie Lovenburg (Vaughn) Iskanian, and Nicole (Michael) Bucher; her eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Faith was an important part of Margaret's life, and she found community at Western Hills Christian Church and Freedom Christian Fellowship.
Margaret had a gift for cooking and loved gathering her family around the table, especially during holidays. One of the ways she expressed her love was through food, delighting everyone with delicious German dishes passed down from her heritage, as well as classic American favorites. For her, feeding her family was one of the purest ways she showed her affection.
She also had a gift where she shared her creativity through sewing. With loving hands, she stitched blankets for those in need, donating them to retirement homes alongside her church sewing group. Her quilts were more than fabric and thread; they were tangible pieces of her heart.
Margaret also had a playful and adventurous side. She loved "galivanting" with Don, and once he passed, she would go by herself to the area casinos, making friends wherever she went. She and Don also made yearly trips to Nevada a tradition full of adventure, laughter, and just enough gambling luck to keep the stories going.
And if there was water nearby, Margaret was in it. She especially loved trips to Destin, Florida, where she could spend hours swimming in the ocean or relaxing in the pool. She often joked that she wished everyone would just leave her there at the beach. Her gentle laugh, her playful spirit, and her love for family will be dearly missed, but her memory lives on in every tradition, bowl of potato/macaroni salad, half piece of gum, bologna sandwich, and memories kept alive by her family.
A funeral service will be held at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home in Lawton, OK, on October 3, 2025, at 10 am, with Pastor Nick Lovenburg of Freedom Christian Fellowship officiating and followed by burial at Fort Sill National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her lifelong partner.
Margaret's love was unmatched, and the legacy she leaves behind is one of devotion, strength, and family. To know her was to be loved by her. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
