Entombment will follow in Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Margaret I. (DeMarcus) McCracken passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. For 94 years, Margaret lived a full and blessed life dedicated to serving God and showing constant love to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her genuine love and desire to care for others, and strong loyalty to her faith and the word.
Margaret was born October 26, 1930, near Meers, Oklahoma, to John (Mervin) and Marie Isabell DeMarcus, the oldest of five children. She graduated as valedictorian of Elgin High School in 1948 and then attended business school. A lifelong hard worker, Margaret began her career at Security Bank and Trust in 1951. She started as a teller and, through dedication and perseverance, worked her way up over the next 46 years to retire as Senior Vice President and Cashier of the bank.
In 1953, she married the love of her life, Chester " Corkey" McCracken. In 1958, they welcomed their daughter, Vickie Lynne Keplinger. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter until Corkey's passing in September 1991.
Margaret was a devoted member of First Baptist East, where she faithfully volunteered for many years. She assisted Raymon with financial matters and, as an avid reader, helped create the church library. Her spirit of service extended into the community as well-she served on the Lawton Chamber of Commerce Board, was secretary of Credit Women International, served on the Friends of the Library Board, and was part of the committee that founded Lawton's first shelter for abused women.
More than anything, Margaret cherished her family. She enjoyed quilting and sewing projects with her sisters, Ellen and Mary, and found great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren-Dustin, Lacie, Gavin, Ryan, Daley, Landry, and Montana. She loved traveling to watch them play sports and took pride in supporting each of their activities. Her kitchen was the heart of many family gatherings, where her famous fried chicken, peanut brittle, fudge, and peanut patties were loved by all. In her quiet moments, she could often be found reading-sometimes finishing more than one book in a single day.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Larry Keplinger; sisters, Ellen Preast and Mary Rogers; grandson and his wife, Dustin and Kristen Keplinger; granddaughter and her husband, Lacie and Christopher Morrison; great-grandchildren, Gavin Keplinger, Ryan Keplinger, Daley Morrison, Landry Morrison, and Montana Morrison, all of Lawton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mervin and Marie Isabell DeMarcus; brothers, John (Estel) DeMarcus and Eugene DeMarcus; and her beloved husband, Corkey McCracken.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist East Building Fund, Tipton Children's Home, or any local charity of choice.
