Lori Kay (Haywood) Whitmore, age 56, of Lawton (formerly of Tuttle), passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2025. She was born on February 22, 1969, in Oklahoma City. Lori was the middle of three children born to Mary Jo Capps and Thomas G. Haywood.
She grew up in Tuttle and attended Tuttle schools. She later continued her education in Jacksonville, Florida, and earned a nursing degree from Oklahoma City Community College.
Lori lived most of her life in Lawton, Oklahoma, where she raised her three children: Taren, Kaitlyn, and Chris. She worked in the medical field for many years and never stopped having a healer's heart. Despite all she experienced in life, her kindness always shone through. She never met a stranger and would never hesitate to help a person or animal in need.
She was incredibly proud of her children, and being a grandma was one of her greatest honors. Among her many loves was her well-known obsession with the Dallas Cowboys and Dr. Pepper. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jo Woods; her sister, Stacy Jo Hulsey; and her husband, Shawn Dale Virgil Whitmore.
She is survived by her three children: Taren Coats, Kaitlyn Henson, and Chris Henson (and wife Marilee Henson); her father, Tom Haywood (and wife Jeanette); three siblings: Shawn Haywood, Kim Kennedy, and Kandi Link; and four grandchildren: Alexis, Mason, Wayland, and Kaynen. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless adopted family members and children along the way.
Graveside memorial services will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Tuttle, Oklahoma, with close family and friends.
