Obituary

A graveside funeral service for Lorene I. Tyler, 96, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, with Rev. Larry Thoma officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Our hearts are saddened to announce that on May 15, 2026, the Lord took Mammaw home. Jesus blessed her with a long life.

Lorene Irene Tyler, everyone who knew her called her "Mammaw," was born on December 8, 1929, in Hendrick, Oklahoma to Otto and Susie (Taylor) Marple. She spent several years in Hendrick before moving to Lawton, where she graduated from school and eventually married James Clark, having four children born to that union. During this time, she worked at Ford-Painter Drug Store and Painter Hallmark for about twenty years.

The two divorced in 1974 and she moved to Arlington, Texas where she met and married Kenneth Hixon. They managed condominiums and apartments until they moved to Electra, Texas, where she ran a home day care until the death of her husband.

In 1999 she returned to Oklahoma where she met Jack Tyler, getting married in 2002. Mr. Tyler passed away in 2004, leading Lorene to move to Lawton where she lived until her death.

God brought Lorene through many challenges throughout her life. In 1987, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, underwent a mastectomy, denied treatment, and was miraculously healed. During this time, Mammaw said she was visited by Jesus, who told her He would be coming back real soon.

Mammaw loved to bake and was an extraordinary crafter. You could always count on homemade goodies at Christmas, and she made the best German chocolate cake and icing on the planet. She was a talented painter and flower arranger who had a special gift for creating beauty in everything she touched. Whether making wreaths and table arrangements, painting flowers, upholstering furniture, or repurposing old pieces to make them look new again, Mammaw's creativity and talent were unmatched.

Lorene is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, May Medintech, Kay Tyler, Wanda Whitacker, and Evelyn Chambliss; children, William Welch, James B. Clark, Phillip L. Clark, Jeanette McClanakan; grandchildren, James L. Warren and Wayne Welch; as well as many friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Cox and her husband Olin; two brothers, James and Beverly Cunningham and Steven Marple; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A special thank you to Centric Home Health and Hospice for the loving care and compassion shown during her final days. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jim and Bev Cunningham for being the best brother and sister-in-law, aunt and uncle anyone could ever ask for.

The last few years of her life were precious. We would have Bible studies, sing hymns, listen to gospel music TV, and pray together. Those are the most precious times we had together.

We love our Mammaw and we will miss her dearly.
