After a valiant fight with illness, Linda Kay Silkey Grubb slept peacefully in Lawton, Oklahoma on November 17, 2018 and awoke in her celestial home. Linda was born on October 11, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Charles and Aliene Ernst Silkey. She learned at a young age the importance of family and friends as she lived in many places due to military moves. A serious, industrious student, Linda attended her first three years of high school in Nuremberg, Germany and then graduated from San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California in 1965. After a semester at Oklahoma State University, she was lovesick and returned to California to marry the love of her life, Dennis Grubb, on April 16, 1966. They lived most of their 52 years of marriage in Concord, California where they raised their two children Christiana and Keith.
During her time in Concord, Linda was active in church ministries, especially those related to missions. Her heart's desire was that all would believe that Jesus came, died, and resurrected to defeat sin so that they might have an abundant, eternal life with Him. Leading "Girls in Action" for many years, she would host extensive studies about missionaries around the world, take the girls to visit missions of different cultures in San Francisco, and frequently host missionaries and seminary students in their home. Tasting food from different cultures was always part of the experience!
Once her children were in school, Linda earned her BA from California State University and worked for Mt. Diablo Unified School District for 22 years in Research and Evaluation. After retirement, Linda and Dennis moved to Lawton to be closer to her aging mother. Those years with her mom were so precious to her. They quilted, laughed, and shared life together with the ladies of the "Killer Bees" of the Wichita Mountains Quilt Guild. Linda loved to sew, did it with excellence, and found great joy in giving her award-winning quilts to family and friends. Linda traveled with dear friends to Texas each Wednesday for BSF Bible study. As a member of Dayspring Community Church, she shared her heart for missions and love of cooking by providing meals for their Bridge Park Ministry, a community outreach. She was sensitive to the needs around her and truly had a gift for hospitality.
Linda is survived by her dedicated husband, Dennis Grubb, and her children, Paul & Christiana Grubb Dunlap of New Braunfels, TX and Keith & Joana Grubb of Lawton, OK. She is also survived by her siblings Daniel & Phyllis Silkey Ketterer of San Juan Bautista, CA and Dr. Larry & Lore Silkey of Cache, OK. If you spoke with Linda, you soon knew that she was extremely proud of her grandchildren and loved to spend time with David Dunlap, Daniel Dunlap, Marianne Grubb, and Derrick Dunlap.
The family wishes to thank all who have loved Linda so excellently through prayer and care. A celebration of Linda's life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 24, at Dayspring Community Church in Lawton, OK. Memorial donations in memory of Linda may be made to Dayspring Community Church Missions at https://dayspringcc.churchcenter.com/giving .
