Linda Hammond, 79, of Geronimo, Oklahoma, passed away on December 15, 2025, at Memorial Health in Lawton, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and devotion to her family.
Born March 1, 1946, to Louis and Vera Holder in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Linda grew up in Southeast Oklahoma and graduated from Springer High School in 1964. On Memorial Day weekend in 1965, she married Thomas Wayne Hammond at Lone Grove Baptist Church, beginning a marriage marked by unwavering faithfulness and shared purpose that would span more than four decades until Tom's death in 2007.
Linda's commitment to education and service defined much of her life. After attending Murray State College in Tishomingo for a year, she returned to academics later in life, earning her bachelor's degree from Cameron University in Lawton and a master's degree in social work from the University of Oklahoma in 1994. She went on to complete the coursework necessary to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, dedicating herself to serving others with both professional skill and genuine compassion.
A woman of remarkable intellect and boundless curiosity, Linda was an avid reader who possessed a deep love of learning that never waned. She expressed her creativity through poetry and drawing and channeled her faith into writing Bible studies and devotionals that blessed many. She taught with passion and purpose, whether leading Bible studies, instructing knitting classes at her church, or passing along her love of cooking to her grandson Colby in recent years.
Her home near Geronimo—where she and Tom settled in 1976—became a place of warmth and hospitality. The annual 4th of July celebration she hosted became a cherished tradition, bringing together church family and friends for homemade ice cream and fellowship. When life took them to Springer for a decade while she worked at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore, they kept their Geronimo home, eventually returning to the place they loved most.
Linda was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith was central to everything she did. She loved attending church, singing with joy, and occasionally serving as church pianist. She expressed her love through the gifts she knitted with her own hands, the meals she prepared with care, and the countless hours she invested in studying Scripture and sharing what she learned with others.
Most of all, Linda treasured time with her children, their spouses, and especially her grandchildren. Her love for her family was constant, sacrificial, and deeply felt. She leaves behind memories of a woman who lived with purpose, loved with her whole heart, and served her Savior faithfully until her final breath.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Wayne Hammond, and her parents, Lewis and Vera Holder and sister, Katherine Goff.
She is survived by her daughter, Delia D. "Dee Dee" Ashenfelter and husband David, son, James "Jimmy" Hammond and wife Andrea, grandchildren, Colby Ashenfelter, Anna Hammond, Olivia Hammond, Eli Hammond and Kate Hammond, brother Darrell Holder and sister Zela Mae Morgan.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
