Leonard Henry Herber, age 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. He was born May 23, 1932 in Wilson, Kansas. At the age of seventeen Herb enlisted in the U.S. Army.  He became a motor sergeant and also served in a MASH unit.  He was a veteran of the Korean war and was awarded a Purple Heart.  He was one of the Chosin Few.

On October 4, 1952, Herb married Donna Ubelhauser in Indianapolis, Indiana. The couple traveled with the Army for the next 18 years finally settling in Lawton. Herb spent the next 23 years at Treasure Lake Job Corp. He was an auto mechanics instructor and was referred to as "Chief" by students and faculty as well. Chief would willingly share his knowledge with his students, but never let them forget who was the "Chief".

Chief retired from Treasure Lake Job Corp in 1990 and spent the next 26 years earning his last and most valuable nickname "Pops". Pops had 7 children, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and too many friends to count. Pops loved being with his family, working at St. John Lutheran Church and helping people.

Leonard, Herb, Chief, Pops, Brother, Dad, Papa, Grandpa- whatever you called him, whatever you needed, one of those guys could take care of you.

Leonard was preceeded in death by Donna, his wife of 50 years, his son, John, and three brothers, Charlie, Richard and Bob, and one sister Dorothy.

He is survived by a sister Peggy Epperson, six children Mark Herber, Madonna Magers, Chris Herber, Kathleen Weske, Allyson Burgess, Lisa Dallas and fourteen grandchildren. Nine great-grandchildren and many friends. We will miss you, Pops!
