Rev. Kenneth Paul Plunk, age 86, of Lawton Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1938 in Mineola Texas to John Quincy and Iva Jewel (Head) Plunk. He enjoyed growing up in East Texas and graduated from Mineola High School. He married his high school sweetheart Loretta Jean Allee on June 2, 1956. He trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior under the ministry of William Allee, his future father-in-law.
He was a devoted husband, father of five children, a grandfather to fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, with one on the way. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed taking them on family vacations to visit his parents in Mineola, where they enjoyed great memories of "the farm." He taught his kids how to work hard, do their best, and find joy in the everyday moments of life. He enjoyed giving his children hugs, singing silly songs, and playing 42 (dominoes) with family and friends. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and even refereed high school football for seventeen years.
Kenneth graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO in 1960. He went on to pastor churches in Elk City, OK, Indianapolis IN, Nashville TN, Buffalo NY, Ottumwa IA, Muskogee OK, Sapulpa OK, and Houston TX where he retired in 2014. He was a great pastor and soul-winner. Many were comforted by his home and hospital visits when they needed hope. There are many in Heaven or on their way because he told them about Jesus.
He continued to show strength and grace when he faced major adversities in life. He faced cancer and chemo in the mid 80's but continued loving his family and serving in ministry. He was know for many funny sayings, such as "That's the way the grapefruit squirts," "Well horse feathers," and "Well my cow in a row boat."
He struggled with dementia the last years of his life, but still kept his humor as he talked with people and made them laugh. Dementia, it seemed, took the light out of his eyes. Ken is now in the presence of the Light of the World, Jesus, who brought it back. He is completely whole!
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents Quincy and Jewel Plunk, his brother Benny Plunk, and his sister Virginia Lennon.
He is survived by his wife Loretta Jean Plunk, son Paul Plunk and his wife Karen, son John Plunk and his wife Cynthia, daughter Sharon Gloden and her husband Melvin, son Andy Plunk and his wife Marie, and daughter Rebekah Sisco and her husband David. He is also survived by grandchildren Autumn Collins and her husband Andrew, Brittany Griffin and her husband Caleb, Kendall Plunk, Journey Parton, Andria Plunk, Melanie Dipprey and her husband Jason, Melissa Blundell and her husband Brad, Danielle Self and her husband Phillip, Megan Plunk, Philip Plunk, David Sisco, Abigail LaFave and her husband Chris, Jonathan Sisco, & Faith Sisco. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Ransom Griffin, Havalah Griffin, Lynlee Dipprey, Lacey Dipprey, Landrie Dipprey, Kylie Blundell, Keira Blundell, and Teddy Self. He is also survived by numerous beloved extended family members, including his brother-in-law Roger Lennon and his sister-in-law Patricia Plunk.
Kenneth Plunk fought a good fight and he finished his course. We look forward to seeing him again one day! "His Lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matthew 25:23
