Beloved daughter, sister, wife and mother of seven children passed away on January 2, 2016 in Oklahoma City. Kathryn Jean (Kay) Conwell was born December 4th, 1925 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Her family moved to Oklahoma City where she attended Corpus Christi grade school and graduated from Mount St. Mary's High School. She studied Fashion Art at Oklahoma City University and worked as a commercial artist at Kerr's Department Store.

She married her childhood friend, Robert Thomas (Tom) Conwell II, on June 10, 1948 at St. Francis of Assisi church in Oklahoma City. They moved to Lawton in 1956 where they lived and raised seven children.

Kathryn was active during her children's school years as a room mother, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Blue Bird leader and was also involved in many church activities at Holy Family Catholic Church with her husband, Tom, who preceded her in death in 2013.

Kay and Tom were members of Holy Family Catholic Church, as well as the Lawton Country Club, where Kathryn was past board member and past President of the Ladies Golf Association. She was also a member of the Fort Sill Ladies Golf Association and member and past President of the Quest Club. She was an avid golfer. One of the highlights of Mother's Day 1987 for Kay was when she was the walking scorer for Arnold Palmer during the PGA Senior Golf tournament at Quail Creek Country Club in Oklahoma City, OK.

Kay was also an accomplished artist. She studied art at Cameron University for thirty years. Her artwork was accepted in numerous jurored art exhibits. She was a member of the Lawton Fort Sill Art Council. Her work was shown in American Artist magazine in December 1998. In 1999, she was awarded signature status in the Colored Pencil Society of America and her art was included in three nationally published books by the Colored Pencil Society of America. She also won the Lawton Cultural Award in 1996. She was also a member of the Botanical Society of America.

Kay had a profound love of nature and incorporated that same love into her artwork.

Her devout Catholicism inspired one of Kay's proudest moments, which was her completion of the icon of St. Barbara, the Patron Saint of the Artillery. She presented the icon as a gift which hangs at the Chapel at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lawton, OK.

Kay is survived by 4 sisters, 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Her children are: Ann Knutson (Nick) of Oklahoma City; Therese Underwood of Edmond, OK; Robert Conwell (Sherri) of Lawton, OK; Mary Hatamleh (Mazin) of Irbid, Jordan; Joe Conwell of Guerneville, CA; Carolyn Conwell of Norman, OK and Barbara Conwell of San Francisco, CA.

Kay was supportive of all of her children's endeavors and they were the loves of her life.

The Conwell family wishes to thank the caregivers at Edencare and Tiffany of Alpha Hospice who all gave so much to their Mother in her last months of life. They would also like to thank Sister Betty from Our Lord of the Epiphany Catholic Church who so faithfully brought Holy Communion on a weekly basis and created so many wonderful memories for the Conwell family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
