Karen Lawton passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Karen was born in Regina, Saskatchewan. Throughout her childhood, she lived in many different places before her family eventually settled in Lawton, Oklahoma, which became home. After graduating from MacArthur High School in 1984, Karen pursued a career in nursing. She attended nursing school and became a Registered Nurse in 1989. She later continued her education at the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Karen dedicated 30 years of her life to nursing, working as an RN in the ICU at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. She loved her career and the people she cared for. As a charge nurse, she was someone others could depend on, and throughout those years she made some of her closest and most treasured friendships. Nursing was more than a job to Karen-it was a part of who she was.
In 1997, Karen married the love of her life, Brian Lawton, in Las Vegas at the Little Chapel of the Flowers. Together they built a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.
Karen was a devoted mother to her two children, Jessica and Brandon, and she was incredibly proud of both of them. Her family was her greatest joy. Later in life, she took on one of her most cherished roles of all- Gigi. Her grandchildren, Jovie and Jaya, brought an entirely new kind of love into her life, and she treasured every moment with them. She was truly the best Gigi.
Karen loved to travel, shop, and most of all, spend time with the people she loved. She had a way of making people feel cared for and loved simply by being herself. She was strong when others needed strength, caring when someone needed comfort, and always gave so much of herself to the people around her.
Anyone who knew Karen, loved Karen. She will be remembered as a strong, caring, loving, and incredibly smart woman who made a lasting impact on everyone lucky enough to know her. Though her time with us was cut too short, the love she gave her family and friends will remain with them forever.
Karen is survived by her husband, Brian Lawton ; her daughter, Jessica Caldwell , and her husband, Jacob Caldwell ; her beloved grandchildren, Jovie and Jaya Caldwell ; her son, Brandon Lawton , and his wife, Kelsey Lawton ; and her mother, Joyce Lutsch .
