Obituary

Funeral service for Juanita Louise Tompkins Edstrom, 92, Lawton, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday in the Northwest Church of Christ with Monte Ginnings, Minister officiating. Mrs. Edstrom died Tuesday, August 21 in Lawton. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. She was born January 18, 1920 in Montague County, Texas, to William and Lucy (Boyd) Tompkins. Her father and his brother, who were farmers, moved their families to Oklahoma when she was two, crossing the Red River in horse-drawn wagons with everything they owned and settling in Tillman County. She and her family later moved to Comanche County when she was 16 and she was a 1938 graduate of Central High School. She married Guy T. Clopton on March 6, 1938 and from that time forward was a farm wife and homemaker. She became a mother when she gave birth to her son, Rex, on November 19, 1938 and from that time forward she considered her major role in life as being a mother which was second only to being a Christian and worshiping God. She became the matriarch of her family and will continue to be as long as any of her descendents live. Her love, influence and example are that powerful. She married Carl P. Edstrom on April 18, 1963 and gave us one of the greatest gifts: two beloved sisters who in turn have given the family more children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Add in six great great grandchildren and the circle of love, with her at the center, grows bigger and bigger. We hear people say that their mom is the greatest mother in the world. We know what they mean because our mother was the example on which the job description is based. She is survived by a sister, Billie Jo Ferrell and husband, Bo; a cousin and best friend, Joyce (Tompkins O'Neal; a son, Rex Clopton and wife Mickie; three daughters, Carol (Clopton) Norton, Beverly (Edstrom) Paschall and Susan (Edstrom) Estes and husband David; a daughter in law, Christina Clopton; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Lynda (Norton) and Scott Endsley, Kevin and Angela Clopton, Chris and Angela Paschall, Misti Clopton, Eugene Carver, Danny Carver, Elizabeth (Estes) and Matt Johnston and Michael and Renee Estes; 12 great grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth Druvenga, Katy and Chris Clark, Sarah and David Click, Aaron and Jenny Endsley, Gunnar Clopton and Kaley Hinch; Everett Carver, Evangaline Carver, Carolyn Paschall, Cate Paschall, Harper Johnston and Maddox Johnston; six great great grandchildren, Charles and Finley Clark, Seven Norton, Zoey Click and David and Timothy Endsley; many cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and her church family at the Northwest Church of Christ. Her parents, husband, a brother, James Tompkins and wife Mary, a sister, Frances Hanson and husband Pete, a brother in law, Dr. Fred Erhardt, a son, Guy (Butch) Clopton, a son in law, Charles Norton, and a niece, Linda Hanson, preceded her in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tipton Children's Home, 1000 North Broadway, Tipton, Oklahoma 73570.
