Joyce Ann Smith 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, May 10th 2023 at McMahon Tomlinson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.

She was born July 25, 1949 in Berlin, Maryland to the late Cumming Francis Purnell and Jennie P. Smith. Joyce graduated from Worcester High in Maryland in 1968. After high school she joined the Army. She was stationed at Fort Sill, near Lawton, Oklahoma, where she was honorably discharged. She loved Fort Sill soo much, she made it her home. She dedicated over 40 years of service to Fort Sill, as a Recreational Specialist on post until she retired.

Leaving behind to forever cherish her memory, daughter Deshon Smith, two granddaughters, Nekia Wise and Chaya Horne, and one great granddaughter Daijah White, sisters Jovon Land Smith (Wallace), and Margaret Leonard and brothers LeRoy Smith and Rickey Smith(Michelle).

Nine of her siblings preceded her in death, Paula Smith, Margret Baker, Ruth Reid, Dexton Smith, Alfred Smith, Charles Smith, Orphus Land, and Francis Wilbert Spence.

Also mourning her loss is a very special friend, Carol Roberts, who went beyond being a neighbor and assisted in her last days.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
