Funeral service for Joyce "Joy" Pannell, 95, Lawton, will be 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Pannell died Monday, January 30 in Lawton. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. She was born May 4, 1916 in Cement, Oklahoma to Samuel and Edna (Widener) Moore. She graduated from Cedar Grove School near Fletcher and married Jimmie A. Pannell on February 26, 1935 in Lawton. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1994. They lived several years in California and Texas before moving to Oklahoma City where Jimmie, in 1943, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. While Jimmie was serving overseas in China and the Philippines, in the Construction Battalion (Seabees), Joyce and daughters, Jimmie Lee and Delores, lived in Oklahoma City until his discharge in 1945. After moving to Lawton in August of 1946 she helped her husband in his home building, cattle and ranching businesses. Following their retirement they moved to a farm East of Lawton and were only the second family to own the farm since it was won in the Oklahoma lottery. She enjoyed nature and loved the many trips in their travel trailer. Joyce was an active member of Central Baptist Church and involved in various programs. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and entertaining friends and family. She was a serene, optimistic role model, a wonderful woman who enjoyed life to the fullest. She was truly an example of the greatest generation. Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Delores and Bob Mansell, Lawton; three grandsons, Perry Mansell, Lawton, Steve Mansell, Oklahoma City and Robert Mansell, Los Angeles, California; a granddaughter, Jennifer Hepp, Austin, Texas; ten great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; two nieces, Karen Richmond, Grove, Oklahoma and Beverly Morris, Duncan; a nephew, Ray Yandell, Edmond, Oklahoma.
