Graveside service for Joy Maydene Murphy will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Fairview Cemetery, Denison, Texas.

Joy Maydene Murphy, 71, of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024. She was born to James Alza Hurst and Lena Mae Hurst (Cobb) on February 18, 1953, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and grew up in and around Mead, Oklahoma. She married James Earl Murphy, Sr., on March 9, 1974. He preceded her in death in 2013.

Joy loved her family dearly. She also loved to tease them by cheering for OSU even though they were all big OU fans. She enjoyed drinking an ice-cold Coke and watching OKC Thunder games. More than anything, however, she loved to read her Bible.

Joy is survived by her daughter, Kendra Sue Rogers; two sisters, Wanda Beach and Ruth Trower; five brothers, Donnie Hurst, James Hurst and wife, Sharon, David Hurst and wife, Marva, Jerry Hurst and wife, Debra, and Ricky Hurst; and two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Hurst and Charlotte Leedy and husband, Roger and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Earl Murphy, Sr.; two sons, John C. Murphy and James E. Murphy, Jr.; a brother, Carl Hurst; brother-in-law, Jerry Beach; and sister-in-law, Ann Hurst.
