John Arthur Osborne, 59, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Oklahoma City surrounded by his family. John was born November 17, 1965 in Mt. Clemens, Michigan to CPT (Retired) Jerry Lee Osborne and Margaret Ann "Peggy" (Seaton) Osborne. In his early years, John and his family lived all over the U.S. - and in Germany and Italy - as his father served in the Army. They moved to Lawton in the 1970s, and that's where he called home ever since. Lawton was also where he fell in love with golf. He rode his bike every day to Cedar Lakes Golf Course to play with his close friends, Jay Moody and Matt Brown. He would go on to play golf at MacArthur High School, where he graduated in 1984. John later obtained his PGA Professional Class A license and worked at Fort Sill Golf Club.

John married his wife, Leah Preast, on July 5, 1990, and together they welcomed two children together, Ryan and Michaela.

Shortly after their wedding, John began a successful career in the grocery business. He worked at multiple stores in Lawton in the 1990s, including Herb's and Buy-for-Less, and he was a store director at Baker's. All the while, he continued pursuing his passion of golf, playing professionally on the Lone Star Tour and competing in the Firecracker Invitational and U.S. Open qualifiers.

John ultimately took his knowledge of golf to the Lawton Country Club, where he served as the greens superintendent. He taught himself the science of turfgrass management, studying numerous textbooks and attending conferences at Oklahoma State University. The country club's incredible course conditions reflected John's hard work and expertise for years. John later worked at Lawton Public Schools as a project manager for ten years.

Most of all, John loved his family and was a devoted husband and father. He coached his kids' basketball teams during their elementary school years and spent countless hours on the road traveling across Oklahoma to watch them play high school baseball and golf. His support didn't stop there-he later followed Michaela's college golf career across the country, from Florida to Arizona and everywhere in between. John's lifelong passion for sports began in childhood, cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Reds, and his golf hero, Jack Nicklaus. He also shared a special bond with Ryan through their love of OU football, faithfully watching every game together for more than a decade.

John had a quick wit and sense of humor, and his family will never forget the funny moments on road trips and during family gatherings. He was also the official family "dog whisperer," and had many loyal companions over the years, from Rowdy to Bogie and Shadow. They all felt safe and protected by John.

John later became an incredible dad to his daughter-in-law Lauren and son-in-law Brice, and he was the best "Papa" in the world to his three grandchildren. He was always the first one up each morning to take care of the dogs and grandkids.

Above all, John taught his children the value of hard work - by showing them every day how it was done and never taking shortcuts in anything that he did. And if there was a problem to solve, or a goal to reach, he was the man who did it, and he didn't stop until the job was done.

John is survived by his wife, Leah, of the home; son, Ryan Osborne and wife Lauren; daughter, Michaela Chaney and husband Brice; grandchildren, Maverick Chaney, Brooks Osborne and Sophie Chaney; and three brothers, James Osborne and wife Joy and Eric Osborne and wife Selda and Rocky Osborne, two brothers-in-law, Glynn Preast and Jason Preast, sister-in-law, Jeanne Preast, and mother-in-law, Ellen Preast.

He is preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, W.A. Preast.
