John Kyle Kinmonth, 62, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2018, in Lawton, Oklahoma. A Memorial Service to celebrate Kyle's life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Thursday November 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert E. Rose, Jr., Pastor officiating.
Arrangements are under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Kyle was born in Lawton on December 26, 1955, to the late John and Roberta (Bobbie) Kinmonth. Kyle attended Swinney Elementary and then Eisenhower Junior High and High School. Kyle then attended: the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University and Cameron University – because he just had to experience it all.
Kyle's early life was full of excitement. Due to him having such a small stature, in comparison to his peers, Bobbie convinced him to take tap dancing at age six because she thought it would help him excel to the pinnacle of his sports career. True to his signature stubborn nature at an early age, much to no one's surprise, after a year in, he refused to participate in tap dance any longer and therefore, they both settled on piano lessons as an acceptable compromise. Kyle also played Little League baseball and football. He grew up loving the game of golf, but his greatest love of all was any opportunity to water ski. Kyle's involvement in the community was outstanding. In 1995 Kyle started his own company, Kyle Kinmonth Construction, which outside of his three kids, was his pride and joy. Kyle's greatest accomplishment of all was being the father to Natalie, John Paul and Katie.
Through the ups and the downs, Kyle's greatest attribute was managing to have an unrelenting and infectious sense of humor every step of the way. He truly has never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Kyle's involvement in the community was outstanding. He followed his children's activities avidly making their sports, PTA and school events a priority throughout their academic career. Kyle loved grilling out, building new things and restoring the old ones. He loved road trips more than anything - particularly taking his kids skiing or to PGA golf tournaments. His favorite road trip of all was to perform his annual Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza, affectionally known as "Poppy Fest" spent with family and friends at Lake Ft. Cobb.
Later in life, Kyle cherished his time and opportunity volunteering where his professional expertise could be put to good use. He spent time with the Baptist Builders out of Lawton who helped families affected by the tornadoes and also spent a good amount of time working with the charity Rebuilding Together in Oklahoma City.
Kyle is survived by his three children: Natalie, John Paul and Katie Kinmonth; his sister Susie Kinmonth Dellenbaugh; Susie's children: Scott Autry and Julie Davis; Julie's children: Jake, Jenna and Jaylee; and many other loved nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Kyle was preceded in death by his loving parents: John and Roberta Kinmonth and both sets of grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kyle's name to the charity: Rebuilding Together, 730 W. Wilshire Ste. 108, Oklahoma City, OK 73116 or on the website: www.rebuildingtogetherokc.org or any charity of your choosing.
