Funeral service for John William "Bill" Doolin will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 5, 2026 in Central Baptist Church with Dr. Owen Nease officiating.
John William "Bill" Doolin, 78, passed away at his home on December 30, 2025, in Oklahoma City. Those who knew Bill will remember him for his grit, his intellect, his laugh, his steadfast faith in God-enduring many trials throughout his life-and the unwavering love he had for his family. He was a man of strength, quiet generosity, and deep loyalty, always ready to help others and always proud of the life and family he built.
Born on May 28, 1947, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to John B. and Katherine B. Doolin, Bill grew up in Alva, Oklahoma where he went to grade school. He then attended Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana, for middle and high school, where he developed the discipline, leadership, and character that would guide him throughout his life. He went on to graduate from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and later studied law at the University of Tulsa, earning his Juris Doctor in 1972.
Bill devoted his life to the practice of law in Lawton, Oklahoma, proudly serving his community for 50 years with integrity, dedication, and compassion. He had many law partners throughout the years who he cherished: Arthur South, Barry Wayne Cousins, Jerry Cude, Vickie Leyja, John Zelbst, Tommy Sims, David Cole, Kelsee Kephart, and The Honorable Richard Darby, Justice of the Oklahoma Supreme Court. His commitment to justice and to the people he served earned him the respect of colleagues, clients, and friends alike. He was appointed and sworn in as a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association Board of Governors, where he served honorably from 2002 to 2005. Bill also served as the Cotton Electric Cooperative legal counsel for 40 years.
Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He married the love of his life, Linda, whom he called his diamond and together they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage, filled with partnership, laughter, and countless memories. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Heather Wiggins and fiancé Audie Martin, John Doolin and his wife Brandy Doolin, and Lindsey King and her husband David King. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Aubrey Wiggins, William Wiggins, Charlotte Doolin, John Jagger Doolin, Jude King, Arden King, Sailer King, and Primrose King, and great-grandfather to Elion Granados, each of whom brought him tremendous joy. He also leaves behind his dear friend Mel Weatherly, his sister in law Paulette Canfield, and his sisters Kit Doolin, Mary Lou Tremblay, Colleen Doolin, Carole Doolin, Martha Doolin, and Ann Carlson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Katherine B. Doolin, and his brother Thomas Doolin.
Bill's legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the example he set, and the family he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in memory of John William Doolin to Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana.
