Joe Langford, 94, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Big Spring, Texas.
Joe was born on February 29, 1924 in Somerset, Kentucky to Lou Mabel (Dykes) Langford and Charles Robert Langford, Sr. In 1926, the family moved to Temple, Oklahoma where Joe attended school.
Joe served in the Second World War as a Staff Sargent with General George S. Patton and his 3 rd Army as they marched across Europe. He served in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He married the love of his life, Lois Franklin, in 1948 and they lived in Lawton until 1976, when they moved to a farm east of town where he raised cattle and had his own construction company. Joe often reminded his family that he "built most of roads in this county". He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, tinkering with his cattle, and being with his family. He taught his grandchildren to drive in the pastures of the farm. Joe and Lois were members of Letitia Baptist Church for many years. In 2010, Joe and Lois moved to West Texas to be closer to their daughter and her family. Joe was a wonderful man of strong character, always willing to selflessly help those around him in need.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Carol and son-in-law Kelly Cook of Midland, Texas, granddaughter Elizabeth Resch and her husband Patrick of Lubbock, Texas and great granddaughter Hayden Elizabeth Resch and grandson David Joseph Cook and his fiancée Jennifer Gerstner of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by brothers, J.B. Langford and his wife Rhonda of Lawton, Frank Langford and his wife Barbara of Blanchard, Dale Langford of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Charles Robert Langford, Jr. and his wife Linda of Lawton. He is also survived by sisters, Charlene Fleming of Lawton, and Linda Rhodes and her husband Jack, of Geronimo, as well as many, many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, his son Terry Joe, sisters Betty Taylor and Jessie Vantine, and brothers Lee Langford, Denton Langford, Layton Langford, and Fred Langford.
