A Celebration of Life service for Joe W. (Wonderful) Gilbert will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 502 SW Burt, Minco, OK.  Family will remain after services for a visitation time.

Joe W Gilbert was born Sept 10, 1939, in San Antonio Texas to Snowden and Lutabel Gilbert.  Joe died 1:00a.m. Saturday March 12, 2022 at his home in Cyril, Oklahoma surrounded by his daughters and granddaughters. He married Dixie Ann Terry October 10, 1956.  Joe and Dixie had four daughters and one son.

Joe was a retired electrician for Lucient Technologies in Oklahoma City.  Other careers include construction, Chickasha, Oklahoma firefighter and later a volunteer with Minco.  Minco was his beloved hometown.  He served as mayor for many years.  Joe's family was the center of his life, and He was happiest when the entire family would get together.   Some of Joe's personal attributes include how he loved life and people and his generosity.  Life was too short not to have fun.  Who doesn't have a free get of jail card from him?   A sample of Joe's wit is in his creating the Papa Joe School of SA.  A quick quip or smart remark to him made you one of his students.  Fishing and music were Joe's favorite pastimes.   Joe knew God and wanted all to know God.

Survivors are Cindy Nickell and husband, Calvin of Cyril, Oklahoma, Debbie Levick of Lawton, Oklahoma, Becky and husband Wayne Merideth of Minco, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.  Also surviving are two sisters Peggy Townley and husband Charles of Cyril, Oklahoma and Roberta "Snowbel" Bishop of Cache and brother-in-law Richard Terry of Cyril, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dixie, daughter Sharon and son Joseph, a brother Winston Gilbert, a sister Susan Price, and son-in-law John Levick.
