Funeral service for Joan Marie Shaw will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with CAPT Steve Shaw, United States Navy Chaplain and Rev. Vuong (Vic) Luong, Associate Pastor of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

Mrs. Shaw passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in Snyder.

Joan Marie Shaw, 83, was born February 6, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Theodore and Eleanor (Walsh) Bromley. She grew up in Kearny, New Jersey and later married Dallas Arthur Shaw in 1958. The couple divorced in 1976. The family moved to Lawton in 1969 where Joan was a nurse at Southwestern Medical Center from 1970 to 1978. She received her Associates degree in nursing from Seton Hall University and Bachelor's degree in nursing from Cameron in 1978. In 1981 she earned her Master's degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. She worked at the VA Hospital in Big Spring, Texas from 1981-1984. In 1984 Joan moved to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and was a professor of nursing until her retirement in 2000. She lived in Del City from 1984 to 2011. She was an avid gardener and participated in the Red Hat Society. Joan loved dogs and had three beloved Yorkshire Terriers; Barney, Kirby and Sassie.

Joan is survived by her two children, daughter, Linda Jackson and husband Kevin, son, Stephen Shaw and wife Terry, four grandchildren, Joshua Shelledey of Oklahoma City, Maggie Shelledy of Brownsville, Texas, Timothy Shaw, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Ryan Shaw, Silverdale, Washington, one great grandchild, Rex Haynes of Newnan, Georgia, two sisters, Claire Zasnowski and Patricia Bromley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother, Charles Bromley.
