It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Jo Ann Messick, who died Friday, February 6, 2026, in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 92.

Jo Ann was born May 2, 1933, on the family farm south of Indiahoma, Oklahoma, to Virgil and Martha (Lietner) Bland. She grew up in the Indiahoma area and was a 1951 graduate of Indiahoma High School. On June 6, 1955, she married Billie Joe "B.J." Messick in Vernon, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2017.

Jo Ann devoted her life to her family, embracing the role of wife, mother, and grandmother and truly exemplifying the meaning of "homemaker". Her faith was also central to her life, guiding her daily walk and service to others. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Indiahoma.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Dennis Jackson, and her grandson, Cory Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Jerry Bland, and an infant sister, Shirley June Bland.
