It is with great sadness that the family of Jo Douglas, age 83, announces her passing on Friday, October 12, 2018 in Oklahoma City after a brief illness.

Gisela Josephine Meisinger, known as "Jo" to her friends and family, was born October 16, 1934 in Baden-Baden, Germany to Johann Paul Meisinger and Maria Elisabeth Meier.

Jo completed her nursing education in Freiburg, Germany and worked as a Registered Nurse in Germany from the mid 1950s to the early 1970s. She married CW4 (Retired) Robert Lee Douglas on July 26, 1962 in Luxembourg and was proud to have become an American Citizen in 1969. Jo was unable to work in the United States as a nurse, but was so dedicated to nursing, she returned to school and completed additional education so she could take the LPN boards in 1979 and later passed the RN boards in 1982. Jo worked at Southwestern Medical Center in the Emergency Department for many years and then worked as the supervisor of the Ambulatory Care Unit until her retirement.

Jo and her husband, Robert, lived in many places in Germany and the United States during Robert's military career. Jo came to the Lawton/Fort Sill area in 1976 with her husband and family, where she lived until her passing. Jo was full of life and was a dedicated wife, mother, Omi, and friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, gardening, and traveling.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, and brother, Manfred Meisinger.

She is survived by her sister, Heidi Reinhardt and brother, Albert Hoffman of Germany, her children May-Britt Seitz and husband, Uli, Michael Douglas and wife, Susie, John Douglas, and Joyce Griffin and husband Glenn. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ashley Beasley and husband, Chris, Kaitlyn Powell, Stephanie Douglas, Joseph Douglas, Dominik Seitz and wife, Nichola, Anne-Catherine Wöltge and husband, Lenny, Steve Griffin and girlfriend, Heather, Shelly Alvarado and husband, Randy, and Taylor Griffin, as well as eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the United Service Organizations (USO) at www.uso.org/donate/donate-in-honor/ .
