Jimmy Charles Ivey, a longtime resident of Lawton, Oklahoma, lived a life marked by faith, love, adventure, professional dedication, and an unwavering devotion to the people and animals he held dear. He leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond his many accomplishments-a legacy of kindness, loyalty, generosity, and a love demonstrated through a lifetime of actions.
Born September 4, 1940, in Maysville, Oklahoma, to Charles and Beulah Ivey, Jim moved with his family to Conway, Arkansas, during his youth. It was there that he developed lifelong friendships and a love for the outdoors. He spent countless hours hunting, fishing, camping along the Arkansas River, and enjoying amateur ham radio. He graduated from Conway High School in 1958.
Jim's professional journey was one of dedication, leadership, and service to others. After exploring several paths early in life, he found his calling in healthcare. In 1965, he became a Registered Radiologic Technologist at the Chickasha Clinic in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where he served until 1971. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1969 from the University of Arts and Sciences in Chickasha and was subsequently awarded a Graduate Fellowship to the University of Cincinnati, where he earned his master's degree in Hospital Administration in 1972.
His career took him to leadership positions throughout the region, including Radiology Administrator at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, and hospital administrator at facilities in Stroud, Mangum, Hollis, and Frederick, Oklahoma. During his time as administrator of Mangum City Hospital, Jim developed and implemented the New Hope Residential Substance Abuse Treatment program, the first inpatient substance abuse treatment program in a rural Oklahoma hospital.
In 1986, Jim joined Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, where he served in several important leadership positions, including clinic coordinator, Director of Support Services, Vice President of Community Health Services, and administrator of Memorial Pavilion Psychiatric Hospital. He retired in 1999, but his commitment to healthcare and the communities he served remained strong. Following his retirement, the hospital asked him to return as interim administrator at Mangum and Hollis for another year.
While Jim's professional accomplishments were many, the true measure of his life was found in his faith, his family, and the way he loved those around him. God, family, and country were the pillars of his life.
Jim shared 34 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Brenda. Together, they built a loving home in Lawton and shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and adventures. He embraced his role as a loving father to his stepdaughter, Mady, and stepson, Rodney.
Jim was Brenda's greatest supporter and champion. His love was never just expressed in words; it was demonstrated in the countless little things he did to make her life easier and happier. Every year when Brenda prepared her classroom for a new school year, Jim was right there beside her, helping set up the room. He would even sit at home cutting out letters and pictures for her bulletin boards. When Brenda pursued her master's degree at Southwestern University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, Jim faithfully prayed over her each time she left the house. When it came time for Brenda and her classmates to take their final exams, he insisted on driving them so they could rest and study along the way. And, of course, he prayed over them before they went in. That was Jim-always encouraging, always supporting, and always putting his love into action.
An adventurer at heart, Jim had a lifelong love of cars, airplanes, and motorcycles. As a licensed pilot, he proudly owned and flew his Piper Cub airplane from 1976 until 2008. He and Brenda shared many wonderful adventures in the airplane and on his motorcycle, creating memories they would treasure for a lifetime. He also enjoyed owning, restoring, and showing classic cars, earning numerous awards over the years. Whether in the sky, on the open road, or working on one of his beloved automobiles, Jim found joy in life's adventures.
Jim also had a tender heart for the dogs who were such an important part of their family. Prissy, Toto, Fudge, Olivia, Trixie, and Roxy each brought joy and companionship into their lives. Fudge, in particular, held a very special place in Jimmy's heart. Born with several physical abnormalities, Fudge needed extra care and attention, and Jimmy lovingly gave him both. He never saw Fudge's differences as limitations but simply loved him unconditionally and made sure he was cared for. The special bond they shared was a beautiful reflection of Jimmy's gentle, compassionate nature and his ability to love without reservation.
Those who knew Jim will remember him as a loyal, generous, compassionate man whose faith guided his life and whose presence made a difference. He believed in supporting those he loved, helping others whenever he could, and making the most of the time he was given. He had a remarkable ability to combine professional strength with personal tenderness, and he leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who loved him.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beulah Ivey.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; his stepdaughter, Mady Aust; his stepson, Rodney Nichols; his mother-in-law, Joan Richards; his brother-in-law, Mike Richards (Terri); his sister-in-law, Vicki Bauer; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

His life was a beautiful example of devotion-to God, to his family, to his work, and to the many adventures and relationships that made his life so rich. Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he gave, the lives he touched, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
