Jimmy Baker, a longtime Indiahoma farmer and rancher, was born on September 4, 1942, in Bucyrus, Ohio to Odell and Bertis Baker. He passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2026, at the age of 83.
Jimmy spent his younger years traveling across the country and into Canada working on the pipeline alongside his father, Odell. He later graduated from Indiahoma High School in 1960. He married Barbara Kay Meyers on October 27th, 1962, at the Holy City in the Wildlife Refuge. Together they were blessed with two children, Justine and Darren. His family was the light of his life and he was theirs.
Jimmy spent over 60 years of his life harvesting. 44 years of that were spent custom harvesting, traveling from Texas to Montana and many places between. In the winter months he worked at the Comanche County Western Barn, for Brown and Root Construction as a heavy equipment operator helping construct the "new highway", and as a welder helping construct the Goodyear plant, Cameron University dorms, the Missile Silos. Jimmy's favorite things were his family, harvesting, and raising cattle. He could always be found working on something as the family cattleman, harvester, handyman, mechanic, babysitter or anything else he could find to keep him occupied. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and not afraid of hard work. In his older years he enjoyed checking cattle, time in the barn, chasing great grandkids, or riding with Barbara to grab a coke. He attended the Indiahoma Church of Christ, was a man of faith and a man of few words, but when he spoke you were sure to listen. His famous piece of advice to pass down to his family was to "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Bertis and Odell Baker, his mother and father-in-law Ruby and Louie Meyers, and brother-in-laws Tommy Bussey and Roy V. Meyers and his wife RaeNell.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, a daughter, Justine Lovelace, a son, Darren Baker and wife Kari. Grandchildren Jake Lovelace, Jarett Lovelace, Jacinda Estep and husband Matt, Marisa Baker, and Miles Baker and wife Daci. Ten great-grandchildren Easton and Cal Lovelace, Kutter and Kreek Lovelace, Sawyer and Baker Reed, Townes and Tacie Estep, and Maverick and Major Baker, sister, Bobbie Bussey, numerous nieces, nephews, and several special friends.
