Funeral service for Jerre Matthews Butler will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2024 in Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 3-5 pm Sunday at the funeral Home.

Jerre Matthews Butler passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, in Azle, Texas, at the age of 84. She was born on August 20, 1940, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Lee Roy and Laura (Gibson) Ehler.  A 1958 high school graduate, Jerre went on to earn an associate degree from Cameron State Agricultural College. She married Michael E. Matthews and later married Chester R. "Rick" Butler. Jerre and Rick were married on July 25, 2011, at the Holy City. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2018.

Jerre devoted her career to a variety of pursuits. While she had worked for Civil Service, her true passion lay in animal care. She owned and operated Dirty Paws Grooming Shop, where she established herself as a skilled dog groomer. Additionally, she raised Labrador retrievers for many years.  She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael L. and Dawn Matthews; two grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Kendrick and husband Timothy and Morganne Blythe Matthews; her great grandchildren, Madison and Lyric; and extended family.

Her parents and two sisters, Anita Melcher and Leona Baker, preceded her in death.
