Funeral services for Jeremiah Gettens, 71, Snyder, will be at 2:00pm Tuesday in the First Baptist Church of Snyder with Pastor Rick Gettens, Mind of Christ Church, Lawton, officiating. Jerry departed this life on July 26, 2012 at a Snyder nursing home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder under the direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Snyder. Jeremiah was born May 5, 1941 in Snyder to Elijah and Lillie Gettens. Jerry, as he was known to his friends, attended Snyder schools. He later worked as a farm assistant in the surrounding counties of Kiowa and Tillman. He married Mary Elix in 1964 and to this union a daughter was born, Brenda Gray, who lives in Lawton. He relocated to Lawton and was employed by Civil Service at the Fort Sill Army Post. He was there from 1974 until 1980 before retiring due to hearing loss. He moved back to Snyder to enjoy his retired years with his wife. Cherishing his memory are his survivors;his wife of the home, Mary Gettens; his daughter, Brenda Gray of Lawton; two grandsons, Kyle and Charles, Jr.; two brothers, Albert Gettens of Lawton and Samuel and his wife Elizabeth Gettens of Snyder; a sister, Ruby Spencer of Lawton; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, seven brothers, and a son in law, Charles Gray, Sr.
