Obituary

J.B. Dobbs, age 76, passed away on September 7, 2024, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Per J.B.'s wishes there is no service scheduled at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

J.B. Dobbs was born on February 26, 1948, in Peggs/ Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to Cecil J. Dobbs and Edith (McFarland) Yocham. He was born at home and was delivered by his father. J.B. was raised and received his education in Vian and Muskogee, Oklahoma. He never graduated from school because he was too busy living life and spending time with family and friends.

J.B. was a true jack of all trades and a master of none. At least, that is what his friends and family thought. However, he did not see it that way. In any case, he could pretty much figure anything out. He spent many years running across the country either by himself or with brothers and cousins. He was especially close with George Hall until they both got old and had to land in one place. J.B. spent his final years in Walters, Oklahoma, with his youngest daughter, Lisa, and her family.

When not enjoying the comfort of indoors, reading or watching old westerns, J.B. found joy in the great outdoors, particularly when hunting and fishing. His grandson, Mathanial Dunlap, was often his companion, but any of the kids who could join were always welcome. J.B. adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding immense pleasure in spoiling them.

J.B. was raised in the era of tough love, which is how he raised his children. His daughters honestly believe, however, that they would not be the strong, independent women they are today without him. He was a loving grandpa who got soft in his old age and loved to spoil his grandchildren & great-grandchildren (there were always snacks at his house).

He was proceeded in death by his parents; his son, Callie J. Dobbs; all three brothers, Dan Albert McBride, Floyd Dobbs & Duane (Sandy) Dobbs; an infant sister, Willa Mae McBride; sisters, Dorothy Wynn-Lawson, Donna Thompson, and Jenny (Beth) Cooper, brothers-in-law, Naamen Wynn, John Lawson, Richard Tyler and Edward (Duck) Thompson; step-brothers Fred, Don, Johnny, Billy, and James Yocham; and step-sisters Bertha Hall, Mary Loretta, Ruby, Patsy Reed, and Larene Scheer; several aunts, uncles, cousins; an infant grandson, Cecil Dobbs (8/22/17); and a few great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his sister, Ocie Tyler of Pittsburg, Kansas; step-sister Sue (Yocham) Scott, of Delia, Kansas, sister-in-law, Teresa Dobbs of Patterson, California; his ex-wife and mother of his children, Wanita Tate of Ft. Scott, Kansas; his three daughters, Gayla F. Boan of Galena, Missouri, Janice (Rene) Womelsdorf of Moran, Kansas, and Wanita (Lisa) & Walter Dunlap of Walters, Oklahoma; step-daughter Shelly and David Szczepanski of Ft. Scott, Kansas, at last count, eighteen grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
