A memorial service celebrating the life of Janet Marie "Jan" Landrum will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026 in Lawton First Assembly with Jamie Austin and Rev. Gary Pratt officiating.
Janet Marie "Jan" Landrum died Friday, September 18, 2026, in Oklahoma City at the age of 71. She was born February 10, 1955, in Cortez, Colorado. Jan spent her school years in Durango, Colorado, attending kindergarten through 12th grade and graduating from high school in 1973. She continued her education at Western Baptist College, now known as Corban University, in Salem, Oregon.
Jan eventually made her way to Lawton, Oklahoma. In 1977, while working at the Fort Sill Commissary, she met Jim Landrum. The two were married on June 14, 1978, in Burkburnett, Texas, beginning a partnership that would span more than 48 years.
Jan worked as a data entry specialist for Civil Service at Fort Sill before following her interest in the medical field. She attended Great Plains Area Vo-Tech, where she studied radiologic technology and became a radiologic technologist. Her career included working at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, Southwestern Medical Center, Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha, and Duncan Regional Hospital, where she eventually medically retired.
Jan never lost her love for Colorado and always dreamed of returning home. Although that dream was not meant to be, she never passed up an opportunity to visit. She cherished the time she spent there and the adventures that came with it. Along with her best friend, Janine, she enjoyed riding her beloved horse, Tony, and exploring the outdoors. She could be persuaded-sometimes grudgingly-to join Roy and Mike for Elk Camp and fly fishing, and she was an avid and exceptionally talented snow skier.
Jan was a member of Lawton First Assembly, where she served as a facilitator in the church's grief ministry and was active in the youth group. When her children were young, she was deeply involved in their school activities, serving through the PTA and supporting them in all their endeavors.
Jan's love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was not simply a mother to her own children; to many others, she was lovingly known as "Mama Jan" or "Gigi." She had a deep and abiding love for God and her family and was always willing to share that love with others. Jan was fiercely honest, never one to hide how she felt, and with her, you always knew exactly where you stood.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; her daughters and sons-in-law, Ali and Sherman Pugh, Melissa and Brett Simms, and Eryn and Joe McLaughlin; her grandchildren, Tyler Kastner, Trevor Kastner, Kena Spruill and husband Greg, Ethan Griego, Hunter Kastner, Logan Fetters, Riley Pugh, Kai Killingsworth, Gabriel Landrum, Mikayla Killingsworth, Kaden Kastner, Blakely Landrum, Morgan Kastner, Sawyer McLaughlin, Gunner Lopez and Kash Lopez; a great granddaughter, Ashlynn Spruill; her brother, Mike Garlinghouse; and her daughter-in-law, Miranda Lopez and her husband, Ryan.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Garlinghouse, her mother, Ann McBee, and her son, 1LT Brandon "James" Landrum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
