James Sass, 80, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023. in Lawton, Oklahoma.

James was born on May 30, 1943, in Niagara Falls, New York to John and Jane (Goone) Sass

After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Army in the service of his country. While serving, he met Ruth A. Callaway, and they were married soon after. When he left the military, he went to work for Lincoln Electric in Cleveland, Ohio. He worked there for 14 and a half years. That's when he decided it was time for a change, he picked up his family and relocated to Lawton, Oklahoma and began working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1979 and continued until his retirement in 2002.

In his time away from work, and during his retirement, he was an avid hunter and a fisherman. He hosted many co-workers and family members at his yearly Lake Texoma fishing trip. Jim made sure everyone had a specific job they had to do in order to make the trip a success. Jim was a great teacher and had a heart for sharing his knowledge about how to catch the biggest, and the most fish on any fishing trip.

Jim was always family oriented and would do anything for his family. Until the time that it became difficult for him to get around, he would do things like helping his brother work on a family house in Pennsylvania or helping to rebuild a neighbors' fence. He had a calling for helping others and a strong work ethic which is carried on by his surviving sons, and his grandchildren.

When Jim was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016, he decided against seeking treatment. He had seen during his years how hard it was on family and friends and decided against it.

James is survived by his wife of the home, Ruth A. Sass; two sons, James D. Sass and wife Susan, Michial S. Sass; eight grandchildren, Dalton Sass, Cole Sass, Josephine Sass, Madeline Sass, Gage Sass, Zoe Sass, Kimberly Powell, and Taylor Hatten; three great grandchildren, Elizabeth Helterbrake, Zayla Sass, and Willow Sass; two brothers, John "Bus" Sass and Robert "Bob" Sass.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Joseph C. Sass, and Jon N. Sass: two brothers, Gary Sass and William Sass and one sister, MaryAnn Condon.
