With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of James "Jim" Dale McGarvey, who departed this life peacefully at the age of 88 on May 19, 2025, at the Veteran's Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Born on February 18, 1937, Jim was a devoted son to Elbert Stanley and Sarah Verlyn (Green) McGarvey. He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers, William Linton McGarvey and Elbert Stanley McGarvey Jr.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1964 as a radio repairman. His service reflected his lifelong passion for technology and problem-solving, and he carried the discipline and dedication of his military years into every aspect of his life.

A man of many interests, Jim had a deep love for rock hunting and thoroughly enjoyed working with computers. He was known for his warm heart and his joy in sharing stories and photos of rock hunting, wildlife, nature and of his beloved children and grandchildren, with friends-and anyone else who would listen.

Jim is survived by his son, Devin McGarvey and wife Charity of Lawton, OK, and his daughter, Kerin Weiher and husband Dave of Lincoln, CA. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Daniel McGarvey and wife Hannah, JD Weiher, Amber Dodson and husband Craig, Cody Weiher and wife Madison, Jennifer Weiher, Sarah McGarvey, Jacey Weiher, and Megan Woodall and husband John. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: James, Olivia, Ember, and Madilyn. Jim is also survived by two brothers, Marion Gene McGarvey and wife Jean, and David Hamilton McGarvey and wife Jolene and a host of lifelong friends.

The family will hold a private memorial in Wyoming at a later date to honor Jim's life and memory.
