Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home
Jackie Deloris Mhoon, 80, left this earth for eternal life in Heaven Friday, June 28, 2019 at her home in Marlow. She was born in Pell City, Alabama on June 30, 1938 to Allan and Iula (Harrison) Higginbotham. She attended school and graduated from Oxford High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, George A. Mhoon, on January 18, 1957. Jackie and her husband traveled extensively during his military career as a service man in the Navy and Army.
Jackie had a calling to enter the nursing field and obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from the Great Plains School for Practical Nursing in 1976. She worked full time as a LPN and continued her education and graduated from the University of New York with a Registered Nursing degree and also Cameron University with a degree in General Education. Jackie served her community throughout her nursing career. She worked at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, was a skilled phlebotomist, and taught in the practical nursing program at the technical school. She left a legacy of the love for nursing and compassion that has inspired many to pursue a career in nursing including her daughter that has followed in Jackie's footsteps.
She enjoyed shopping for antiques, traveling, decorating, reading, crocheting, knitting, and long conversations with her son Michael. Although her last few years were very difficult and presented many challenges Jackie never lost her passion for nursing. When the hospice nurses made their visits Jackie would somehow slip in a moment of teaching up to her last days. She loved her family and many dear friends. She was extremely fond of her great grandchildren and loved giving the children treats and money for doing well in school or completing a chore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a daughter-in-law, Teresa Mhoon.
She is survived by her son, Michael D. Mhoon of Lawton, daughter Kathy Berndsen and husband Robert of Marlow, grandchildren, Leo Berndsen, Jessi Sellers and Chad all of Lawton, great grandchildren, Ryleigh Ann, Kaelyn Grace, Blacyn Paul Berndsen-Sellers, Brody, Bryce and Case Sellers and many other family and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist East, 3302 SE Lee Blvd., Lawton, OK 73501.
