Jackie went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at OU Medical Center after a brief illness. Jackie Dean Dickerson was born January 1, 1952 in Amarillo, Texas to Marvin Wilson and Dorothy Grace (Turner) Dickerson. He attended all 12 years of school in Snyder. After graduating high school in 1971, Jackie moved to New York City, New York to live with his brother, and he became a certified welder for Brooklyn Union Gas. While home on vacation, Jackie met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Buxton. Jackie and Pat were married on June 29, 1974 in Snyder, Oklahoma and they shared 46 wonderful years together. After the marriage, they remained in Snyder and Jackie became a journeyman electrician, working with his father for Perry Electric. Jackie and Pat became the parents of two boys, Gary Dean Dickerson and David Allen Dickerson. In 1984, Jackie became a CLEET certified police officer, and worked as a police officer for the City of Snyder for several years. He then became a deputy sheriff for the Kiowa County Sheriff's Department in Hobart, Oklahoma until 1991. Jackie always had a passion for the law, and he loved to tell "war stories" from his time on the force. In 1992 the family moved to Altus, Oklahoma and Jackie was employed for many years as a dispatcher with the Altus Police Department. Jackie transferred from the police department to Emergency Management for the City of Altus. In 2007, Jackie started working for the Jackson County Memorial Hospital where he was employed as an Environmental Health & Safety Security Officer. Jackie loved his job as security officer and he was especially fond of his boss, Jim King. Jackie worked faithfully for the hospital until he was injured in 2013, forcing him to retire.
Jackie never met a stranger and he loved talking with people. He was a kind and generous man who would give you the shirt off his back if it was needed. Jackie was always helping others or giving money to those in need. His favorite quote was "If money can fix it, it's no big deal". Jackie was licensed to preach by the Southside Baptist Church in the 1970's, and he loved to preach the word of God any chance he got. Jackie was loved by so many people, especially his family, and he will be greatly missed.
