Following high school Jack was inducted June 15, 1943 into the United States Navy as a RD2 (Radarman Second Class) aboard the destroyer USS Frazier (DD607) during WWII. Jack served in the Pacific Theater of operations aboard the USS Frazier which had a stellar battle history during WWII. The destroyer was known for sinking many submarines in a variety of ways. One of those ways was by ramming a Japanese vessel that had been brought to the surface by damage caused from depth charges. The Japanese vessel was sunk and the USS Frazier sailed for Pearl Harbor for repairs. While on the Frazier, Jack spent his free time boxing. Jack was an avid swimmer and the crew spent time swimming around the ship as a recreation. He was enjoying swimming so much one day he did not realize that everyone had gotten out of the water due to a shark nearby. While in the Navy Jack earned the following honors:  The Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (4 stars), and the Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon (1 star).

Following Jack's honorable discharge from the Navy he came home and worked in Kansas and Oklahoma in the oil fields. He worked in Stuttgart, KS as an oil pump man, worked in oil fields near Emporia, KS, for Phillips 66 in Shidler, OK and worked for Conoco near Hennessey, OK as a salt water mover. He worked for many years as a long distance truck driver out of Seekonk, MA. Once Jack retired he worked at a Pizza Hut delivering pizzas. When the day came he couldn't drive anymore he would go to Pizza Hut and fold boxes.

Jack was considered by his family as Superman, WWII veteran, and a part of the "Greatest Generation". He was a prime example of a hardworking man who consumed Bible scripture daily and had a passion for reading books and literature. Jack loved riding bicycles his whole life and when the day came he couldn't ride a two wheeler he switched to a three wheeler. One of his biggest thrills as a grandfather was to be able to baptize one of his grandchildren.

Jack and his wife Norma were active members of several churches in their lifetime, which include the Shidler First Christian Church in Shidler, OK, the Easter Heights Christian Church in Ponca City, OK, and the Oakwood Christian Church in Enid, OK.
