Irlena Marie Murrill was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, February 1, 1968, and passed away on September 14,2024, in Lawton, Oklahoma, after battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer for eight and a half years. Marie was the strongest person we have ever known. During her long battle, she never lost hope, her sweet smile, her loving words or positive outlook on life. She always made sure to let everyone know how much she loved them.
She was the daughter of Leonard Cook and Georgia Irlena Caldwell. Her mother remarried Kenneth N Perkins in 1983. She was the granddaughter of LB and Betty Jane Caldwell; and Osborn H. Cook and Wilma Sweatman. She married Nathan J. Murrill on August 3, 2007.
Marie is survived by her husband Nathan J. Murrill of Lawton, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her daughter Heather Leigh Dodson and her husband Cody Dodson of Elgin, Oklahoma; son Corey Adams of El Paso, Texas, and daughter MiKayla McHargue and her husband Marshall McHargue of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, Bayleigh Works, Tripp Dodson, Tinley Adams, and Megan McHargue; along with her brother, Clayton Cook: brother-in-law David Alley-Cook; sister, Sheryl Thornhill and her brother-in- law Steve Thornhill. Along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Leonard Cook; her mother Georgia Irlena Perkins; stepfather Kenneth N. Perkins; grandparents, LB and Betty Jane Caldwell; and grandparents Osborn H. Cook and Wilma Sweatman.
She grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma, and graduated from MacArthur High School in 1986. She was voted Most Popular Cowgirl her Senior year. As a kid she loved to ride her horses and rodeo, which she continued until she was a young adult. She competed in barrel racing, but her favorite event was pole bending which she held a state record for over 20 years. Marie loved to compete so much her Grandpa LB traded one of his favorite guitars for her favorite horse Joker. In her teenage years, she wanted to ride bulls, but her mother wouldn't let her.
She lived on her family's farm for the majority of her life, right next to her mother and stepfather, Irlena and Kenneth Perkins, as well as her grandparents LB and Betty Caldwell. Marie enjoyed working on the farm. Marie showed Gelbvieh Bulls, in which she won State Reserve Champion and State Grand Champion with her bull, Humdinger. She went on to share her love for livestock showing with her daughter, nieces and many younger cousins.
Marie worked as painter with her mother for Mayhue-McKee Realty until her mother's death in 1998. Marie then went to school to receive her CMA certification to be a medical assistant. She worked in the medical field for a couple of years, until she decided to open her own painting business, Murrill's Painting. She had immense talent as a painter and interior decorator.
Marie's greatest joys in life were her grandchildren. She would watch them during the holidays and summer breaks. She would always try to make sure that each day was their best day, whether that just be some small toy, a treat or showing up at their home with rabbits, chickens and ducks. She loved watching Bayleigh and Tripp at their sporting events and spending the holidays with them. She also loved getting surprise visits or Facetimes from Megan and Tinley. But her favorite was just getting to snuggle with her big and little grandchildren.
Marie enjoyed gardening, especially her roses. She took pride in taking care of her home. Marie loved taking exceptional care of her many animals and just being around her family. She loved riding motorcycles, side by side and camping with her husband Nate. She was honored to be able to take care of her Grandma Betty before she passed away in 2022. She loved spending time with her brothers Clayton and David when they would visit from Alaska. Christmas and the big Fourth of July parties were her favorite. She loved Heather's pecan pie and looked forward to getting her own every Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also enjoyed watching Oklahoma State football games with her family. She loved spending time with her kids, Heather, MiKayla and Corey. She would laugh and give eye rolls at her family's competitiveness during domino nights at James's house. She loved getting the best hugs from her son-in-law Cody, and nephews TJ and Justin. She was also a lover of all music and enjoyed listening to her Grandpa LB's old vinyl records.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her hospice nurses Melissa, Nicole, Angel, Gloria, and Candy for the exceptional care, her chaplain Daniel, Dr. Brittingham and his team, McMahon-Tomlinson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, her neighbor Amy Crumine, James McQuain, Savannah and Justin Diehl, Aunt Alicia, The Ashleys, Doc Chambers and wife Cindy, and everyone else who took time to care for Marie.
