Memorial Service for Ian Donald Robb, 69, Lawton will be 1:00 pm Monday at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Ian died Friday at his residence. Services are under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Ian was born September 2, 1942 At Urunga, New South Wales, Australia to Neville and Edna (Stupart) Robb. Having completed his degree in chemistry and his PhD at the University of Sydney, Ian married Jean, and they traveled to the United Kingdom so that Ian could take up employment offered by Unilever. Although intending to remain in the UK for a few years, he stayed there for some 35 years, and he and Jean had two sons, Adam and Matthew. Although kept busy by work and family he loved, Ian still found time to carry out important research within his chosen sphere of science, physical chemistry. He received recognition for the quality and quantity of his research when he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Sciences by the University of Sydney. Ian had a wide variety of interests. He was a keen sportsman, playing and then coaching cricket and rugby. He kept bees, learned to play the saxophone, learned how to cook proper curries and became a qualified Shiatsu Masseur. When he was sixty years young, Ian set off for challenges new and moved to Duncan, Oklahoma to work for Halliburton as Senior Scientific Advisor working in surfactants and polymers as well as mentoring students and new employees. He continued to publish throughout his career. He is the author of over 70 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and holds numerous patents. He is the editor of two books, "Specialists Surfactant" and "Microemulsions". Ian served as the Chairman of Colloid Interface Science Group, Royal Society of Chemistry for five years, and was a member of the American Chemical Society. One of Ian's primary interests was his involvement with the Unitarian-Universalist Church where he met his partner, Linda Moon, and served a term as president. He and Linda shared their love of travel by visiting countries all over the world. Ian had a wonderful sense of fun and play and was fascinated by the world and everyone he met. He possessed a sharp and questioning intellect and was never satisfied by easy answers but always sought to understand the world around him working from first principles. Ian is survived by Linda of the home; Jean, Adam, Matthew and his grandchildren, Zac, India, Daniel and Joel all of England. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Lawton, 701 SW B Ave., Lawton, OK 73501
