Funeral service for Helen Maxine Cantrell Pierce, 81, Lawton, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 24, in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Pierce went to be with her heavenly family and Creator, Tuesday, January 21, in Lawton. Burial will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill. Mrs. Pierce was born November 16, 1932 in Rush Springs, Oklahoma, to Cloyce and Beulah Baker Cantrell. She married Wayne V. Pierce on March 14, 1951 in Deridder, Louisiana. They were married for 59 years when Wayne passed away on May 29, 2010. Mrs. Pierce lived the life of an Army soldier's wife for 32 years. After her husband's retirement, she worked beside him for another 22 years in their small business in Lawton. She attended the University of Oklahoma and also was a real estate broker. She lived in Germany and Italy but has spent most of her life in Lawton. She enjoyed shopping, playing slot machines, watching and talking about the weather and visiting with friends and family. Words that describe Maxine include spitfire, pistol, tenacious, devoted, generous, cherished and loved. Survivors include her two daughters and their spouses, Helen Kathleen and Charles T. Lucas, Bentonville, Arkansas, and Karen Maxine and Randall Funderburg, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Christopher Lucas, Lawton, Clayton Lucas, Oklahoma City, Julia Allbee and her husband Chris, Sunnyvale, California, and Rachel Funderburg, Oklahoma City; a great granddaughter, Jade Ralph-Lucas, Minneapolis, Minnesota; a brother, Glenn Cantrell, Lone Grove and many nieces and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, retired CW4 Wayne V. Pierce, her parents, and a grandson, Charles Lucas.
