Obituary

Hazel Taylor departed this world on 13 October 2015 after suffering a fall in her home. She received excellent care from Southwestern Medical Center, and she fought hard. In the end, however, Hazel went peacefully, surrounded by family. She was 91 years old. Hazel was born on 20 November 1923 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Hazel Bannister and Frank Sheppard Dorman. She grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating from high school there and attended Memphis State College (now the University of Tennessee). After he returned from serving in the European Theater in World War II, Hazel married Charles Louis Leroy her friend since childhood. Lt. Col. (ret) Leroy died in 1977. In 1989, Hazel remarried Col. (ret) John Frank Taylor, who died in 1999. She is survived by her daughtersLouise Leroy Mitera and Hazel Carr Leroy (the late Richard J. Scott); her son-in lawLouis W. Mitera; her grandsonCharles L. Leroy Scott; her best friend since childhoodAnn Cullins Beam; and her friend, companion, and caregiver, Linda T. Tipton. Hazel was an excellent daughter, wife, and mother. She was also an accomplished, self-taught artist. Hazel was a friend to many and genuinely liked people. She was a charming, warm, generous, kind lady. Her absence is a rip in the tapestry of this life. There was a private memorial service for only the family.
