Harold Robinson, age 82, Lawton, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018. He was born in Cooper, Texas on September 22, 1935 to Lawrence Grady and Edith Lucille Robinson. At age two the family moved to Dallas, Texas and continued to reside there. After high school Harold joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 and was assigned to duty in San Antonio, Texas, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Anchorage, Alaska, Biloxi, Mississippi and Valdosta, Georgia. His least favorite assignment was to a squadron at Keesler AFB in Biloxi that had the responsibility for mortuary affairs for all military services in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The nature of those duties required long and unusual working hours and were emotionally straining. His most favorite assignment was Moody AFB in Valdosta where he was a member of the Air Force Pistol Team, participating in matches at military and civilian locations throughout the Southeastern states. During this time he achieved the highest NRA certification of Master. He also received a number of service and campaign ribbons prior to being discharged from the Air Force in 1966.
Returning to Dallas after discharge, he went to work for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service which had recently relocated their New York headquarters to Dallas. His duties as a Management Engineer required travel throughout the world. He would occasionally comment on being on twenty-one airplanes in nineteen days as "no record but way above average". From Dallas he was assigned to the Vietnam Regional Exchange in Saigon in 1968. He was reassigned back to Dallas in 1969 and then to Fort Sill as operations Manager in 1973. Harold left AAFES and went to work at Cameron University in 1983, retiring in 2008 after 25 years as Director of Physical Facilities.
Harold loved golf, flying airplanes and riding his motorcycle. He also took pride in having been a member of the City of Lawton Planning Commission and the Comanche County Industrial Development Authority.
During his Air Force assignment to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska he met and married Barbara O'Bryan. From this union two daughters and a son were born. He then married Freiddi Nickell in Plano, Texas in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Randy Wilkinson and Renè and Cyp LaPorte; his son, Wendell Robinson; four grandchildren, Stacy Perry and husband Nathan, Kayla Wilkinson, Britney LaPorte and Nicholas LaPorte; three great grandchildren, Emma, Addison and Brooklyn; two step daughters and their spouses, Crysti and Terry Brierton and Penny and Joe Lee; three step grandchildren, Austin Brierton and wife Kayla, Joe Bob Lee and wife Sidney and Collin Brierton; two step great grandchildren, Hallie Jo and Kopelan Rhett Brierton.
His parents and a brother, David, preceded him in death.
