Harold Crow, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2024, at Brentwood Senior Living Center in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Harold was born east of Lawton in April of 1941 to Lewis and Mabel Crow. He was raised on the family farm with his brother, Terrell Crow. He attended Beaver Bend Elementary School, one of the last "one-room schoolhouses" in Comanche County. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1959 and then from Cameron State Agricultural College in 1961 with an associate degree in business. While in College, he drove a bus for Lawton Public Schools and participated in ROTC. After college, Harold began working for S.H. Kress & Co., when he realized that auto mechanics was his calling in life. He was drafted into the Army and served two years from 1962-1964. In June of 1964, he married Suzette Dunham. After his military service, Harold and Suzette moved back to Lawton, where Harold and Suzette's son, Steven W. Crow, was later born.
In 1965 Harold set out to begin his career as a mechanic and began working for Harold Vinson's Garage on North Sheridan Road in Lawton. In 1970 Harold opened his small, one bay shop called Crow's Garage at 1704 Cache Road. He worked on cars, lawn mowers and radiators, where he developed a thriving business success. In 1974 Harold built the West Garage. In 1976 he and his brother, Terrell, built the Eastside Muffler Shop. In 1979 he and Terrell opened the Altus Shop. In 1982 he opened another Muffler Shop on Lee Blvd. He was an inventor and loved construction and welding. He transitioned to trailer manufacturing and sales in 2000 when he made the Lee Blvd shop into Crow's Sales & Service. This venture allowed him to weld and start a tire sales business.
Harold Crow was a man who not only valued hard work but was passionate about it. He was a man who treated his customers honestly and fairly, all his life. He was truly one of a kind.
He is survived by one son, Steven W. Crow, of Lawton, and one grandson, Ryan Crow and wife, Emily Crow of Moore, a sister-in-law, Sue Crow, of Lawton, a nephew, Jerrell Crow and wife, Stephanie Crow of Lawton; and a niece, Condra Langford and husband, Randy Langford of Chattanooga.
