On January 2, 2024, Hannelore (Hanna) Smiley passed peacefully surrounded by close family and the love of her life in Lawton, Oklahoma.  She was 81 years old.  Hanna was born May 6, 1942, in Giessen, Germany.  It was a crisp October evening in Giessen when SGT Clem Smiley, Jr. caught sight of the most beautiful woman with big brown eyes and a spitfire personality that he would make his forever love.  On September 8, 1962, Hanna and Clem began an endearing love story that would withstand 61 years together.  Together they built a beautiful family with the birth of their daughter, Dee Smiley at Fort Hood, Texas and their son, Clement E. Smiley III in Honolulu, Hawaii.  After having moved to several duty stations, Hanna and Clem decided to retire in Lawton, Oklahoma.  This is where Hanna began a career in sales, working 16 years with Gibson's and then retiring from Walmart after 10 years.  In retirement, Hanna enjoyed gardening, which she and her husband would often donate anything that grew in abundance to the Lawton Food Bank.  Hanna looked forward to her outings with Susan going shopping at Goodwill and estate sales, where she would search for porcelain dolls to add to her collection.  Her passion, however, was crocheting and she loved attending the Warm Hands, Warm Hearts crochet classes at the Learning Center with Susan.  Hanna left a treasured legacy to all her great grandchildren by crocheting the most beautiful baby blankets and hats.  Hanna had battled breast cancer in the past, but it was in May of 2012 that she was diagnosed with Parkinson's.  She was courageous, determined, and unyielding while battling her disease over the past 12 years.  God looked upon her and saw how exhausted she was, so God granted her mercy and she surrendered.  He carried her home so she could rest peacefully in his arms.

Hanna is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, 1SG (Retired) Clement E. Smiley, Jr., her daughter Dee and husband Will Walters of Carrollton, Texas, her son Clement E. Smiley III and his wife Moniqua of Lawton, Oklahoma, her "adopted" daughter Susan and husband Shawn Parsons of Marlow, Oklahoma, "adopted" granddaughter  Catherine Rivers of Lawton, Oklahoma, her sister Lee and husband Joe Diaz of Lawton, Oklahoma, grandchildren, Logan Walters, Kara Price, Vanessa Shott, Jeffery Shott, 7 great grandchildren and numerous other extended family and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Paula Fink of Giessen, Germany, her brother Carl Heinz of Giessen, Germany and her great granddaughter, Karley Jayne Wilson of Fletcher, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Hannelore Smiley to the Oklahoma Parkinson's Alliance, 711 SW D Avenue, Lawton, OK 73501 or to the Center for Creative Living Senior Citizen's Center, 3501 Dr. Elsie Hamm Drive, Lawton, OK 73505.
