A service celebrating the life of Gwendolyn Stuart will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2023 in Wildwood Community Church, 1501 24th Ave NE in Norman, Oklahoma.

A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Wakita Cemetery in Wakita, Oklahoma under direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Gwen Stuart, 96, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 96. She passed of natural causes with her family close by.

Gwen was born June 30, 1926 in Frederick, Oklahoma, the daughter of Bernard Carter (B.C.) and Jamie Hines.  She had a younger sister, Barbara.  Gwen graduated from Fletcher High School in Oklahoma and later graduated in 1947 from the Enid (Oklahoma) General Hospital Foundation School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse (RN) for the next 46 years.  She met Charles Donald (Don) Stuart in 1946 or 1947.  Gwen married Don on August 12, 1947 and they were married for 56 years until Don passed away in 2003.  In 1948 they had their first boy, James (Jim).  Then, they had three more boys, Dan in 1950, Fred in 1951 and Robert (Bob) in 1952.  Gwen thought nursing school was tough, until she had those four boys.

Gwen liked to ski in Colorado with Don in their younger days and they both sang in the church choir.  They had a cabin near Crede, Colorado for several years, but she lived most of her life with Don in Lawton, OK.  She was an RN at Comanche County Memorial Hospital and worked a few years at the U.S.P.H.S. Indian Hospital as well as having worked at Reynolds Army Community Hospital at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Gwen is survived by her four boys, Jim and his wife, Bridget, Dan and his wife, Jana, Fred and his wife, Patty, and Bob and his wife, Cheryl, 12 grandkids, and 25 great grandkids.
