Memorial service for Grady N. "Buddy" Williams, 70, Lawton will be held 10:00 am Thursday, February 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Danny El Kouri, Word Alive Church, officiating. Buddy died Tuesday, February 18 in Oklahoma City. He was born April 9, 1943 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Jerry Williams and Darleane Cobb-Williams. Buddy was injured when he was seventeen and was a quadriplegic. He did not allow this disability to hinder him. He rose to fame as a professional poker player and was an icon to many in and out of the disabled community. Some of his many accomplishments from 1996 through 2008 included winning or placing in several events such as WPT, OSCP, WPO and WSOP and winning fourth in the World Poker Tour (No Limit Hold'em) main event in 2003. He placed first at the Oklahoma State Champion of Poker (Deuce to Seven Low Ball Draw) in 2007. Buddy played poker with all the legendary players of the day which resulted in many friendships from around the world. Among his favorite pastimes were collecting and restoring vintage cars with his brother. He loved W.C. Field's one liners, going fishing with friends and family, and holidays with the entire family at his home. His generosity was only exceeded by his friendship to so many. He never hesitated to support, mentor and guide his friends and family with wisdom and his own form of enlightenment. He was the patriarch and eldest of nine children. He is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Ronnie Williams, Lawton, Judy Williams and Sue Garl, Peoria, Arizona, Elaine Handberry, Long Beach, California, Mark and wife Marilyn Williams, Lawton, Paige Williams and Liz Rowzee, Lawton, Dawn and husband Alan Hatch, Paradise Valley, Arizona, Steve Williams and wife Robyn, Cache, Todd Williams and wife Kelli, Lawton, and Monica Norris, Lawton; an aunt, Lee Taylor, Arizona; care giver, Adrian Cantero; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and extended family.
