Obituary

Funeral for Geraldine (Geri) Thomas King, 77 of Lawton, OK, will be held at First United Methodist Church, 2602 NW Ferris, at noon on Friday, September 26, 2014 with Rev. Al Potts, Pastor and Rev. Frankye Johnson, retired United Methodist Elder officiating. Mrs. King died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 in Lawton. Burial will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the funeral home. The most important thing in the world to Geri was her family. She was born on December 19, 1936 in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma to James A. and Velma Booth Thomas. When she was three years old her family moved to Sterling, Oklahoma to be near the extended Booth family. Those weekly family gatherings are legendary - so many people - so much love. She was baptized in the Sterling United Methodist Church where she attended regularly and sang in the choir. She later transferred her membership to the First United Methodist Church of Lawton where she has been a member for over 35 years. Geri was a wonderful cook. Her love for helping others was evident through her service in organizing and preparing countless meals for over twenty years at the church. She, along with many special people, blessed the lives of numerous people on Wednesday nights, Sunday quarterly meals, Youth Force meals and so much more. She was generous and kind-hearted and she will be deeply missed. She was a homemaker in the strongest sense of the word. Her greatest joy was in caring for her family. She loved nothing better than having them with her at the holidays with Christmas being her favorite time of the year. She spent great time and energy preparing her home to host family and friends for Christmas. She enjoyed supporting her family at their various activities and never missed an opportunity to encourage them. Nothing will be the same without her. She is survived by her husband of forty years, 1SG (Retired) Robert D. King, her sister Genevieve Council, her brother-in-law Howard Council and two sisters-in-law, Marsha Thomas and Libby Thomas-Wheat. Her children are Joe and Marith Means; Kelly and Christine Means; Kevin and Lisa Means, Keith and Aimee King; Debbie Benoit and Bettye and Glen Fox. Her grandchildren are Malana Means, Jarod and Stephanie Means, Brett Means, Jordan Taylor, Ryan Means, Lauren Means, Halle Means, Dillon Means, Zachary Means, Taylor Means, Trevor Means, Ella King, Mary King, Molly King, Brandon and Shauna Benoit, Jennifer and Jason Ricker, Kimberly Finch, Larissa and Darrell Chambers, Andrew Fox. Great-grandkids are Gabriel Means, Abby Benoit, Hunter Benoit, Dalton Mize, Kayleigh Mize, Sydney Ricker. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jess, Jim and Randy Thomas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Kitchen Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 2602 NW Ferris, Lawton, OK 73505.
