She was born October 4, 1951 in Bangor, Maine to Clark and Neva Dunshee. Kay was the second of Neva and Clark's seven children. Kay married Larry Beckmann and had two children, Nick and Alicia. Nick and Deena gave Kay her first grandson Clayton. Nick then married Jessica and they had two children, Isabella and Nora. Jessica was the perfect daughter in law for Kay. Alicia has two children, Tony (Cheeto) and Alicianna.
Kay met Peter and began a happy, loving relationship around the time Kay became a grandparent. Peter was loved by all and became known as "Pebo" to the grand babies, nieces and nephews. With her children and all of her grands living in Lawton, and job at the casino she loved, her world was perfect.
Growing up Kay loved singing and looked up to her big sister Cheri for all things cool, fashion, dancing and music. Kay was always protective and a great help to her mom. Her mom relied on her and she did not disappoint.
Kay's size was small but her presence was large. Kay had many friendships that lasted most of her life. She was a loyal and faithful friend taking the time to learn all about their families and special events in her friend's lives. She had a great memory and her many friends always knew she cared deeply about them. Kay did not see well but she had extraordinary vision when it came to the needs of her loved ones.
Kay's children and extended family were a great source of joy for her. No one was more excited to be a grandparent than Kay. Her grandchildren, Clayton, Isabell, Nora, Cheeto and Alicianna brought her happiness unlike anything she had ever experienced. Family reunions were her favorite. She looked forward to them months ahead.
Kay's son Nick said it best. "There was nothing I would ever change about her, she was perfect". Her daughter Alicia cared for her Mom with extraordinary love and devotion, never leaving her side. As Kay became more sick Alicia, Nick, Jessica and Peter along with niece Taren and sister Molly attended to her every need. Kay was literally never alone. Their devotion to her care during her last year was truly the most beautiful loving gift one could give.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents Clark and Neva Dunshee and Brother Frank Dunshee.
Kay leaves a huge family. Nick and Jessica Beckmann and children Clayton, Isabella & Nora of Lawton, Oklahoma and Alicia Burris and children Tony (Cheeto) and Alicianna of Lawton; partner Peter Smeltzer of Lawton; sister Cheri Ewert of Houston, Texas; sister Julie Barrows of Boerne, Texas; brother Patrick Dunshee of Bountiful, Utah; sister Molly Thompson of Cache, Oklahoma; sister Ann Baird of Keller, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Kay's ability to show how much she loved others was on full display. She cried with joy often when seeing someone because that was just how she expressed how much she loved you. Kay's love was genuine, pure and without envy of judgment.
Kay was happy. Peter and Kay loved spending time with family and traveling to Las Vegas to see Peter's family. Peter and Kay were a great match. As Peter would say "we did not always see eye to eye on things but we never argued". Kay loved her life with Peter.
Kay left this life on Thursday, August 15, 2019 surrounded by her family and loved ones.
