Obituary

Fikri Kamel Farhood passed away peacefully in Lawton, Oklahoma on February 4, 2022 just shy of his 87th birthday.  He was born on February 18, 1935, in Jdeidet Marjeyoun, Lebanon to Kamel & Rosa (Deeba) Farhood. He was the youngest of ten siblings: Farid, Victoria, Fayez, Fomia, Philomene, Fahkri, Victor, Fehmi, and Farida.

Fikri attended the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the University of Oklahoma earning a degree in History and Political Science from AUB.  After college, he worked in the family business, the famous Diplomate restaurant which overlooked the Mediterranean in Beirut.  During that time, Lebanon shined as the Paris of the Middle East, and the Diplomate would host international events and famous guests including heads-of-state, ambassadors & beauty queens.

Fikri later entered the import & export business and relocated to Brazil to work with his brothers Fayez and Fehmi. He would spend ten years in Brazil before immigrating to the U.S. settling in Oklahoma to be close to his sisters Fomia & Philomene along with a large extended family.

Fikri was a diplomat, historian, philosopher, linguist, trusted confident and problem-solver. He could have a conversation about global affairs, ancient history, or art in three different languages (English, Arabic & Portuguese). In addition to his thirst for knowledge and unending love for his family, Fikri will be remembered for his quick wit, bold personality, and endless personal anecdotes.

Fikri was an uncle and mentor to many and was known for his immense knowledge and wisdom. The words "let's ask Fikri" were commonly heard when a problem arose.  A family member recently joked that "even Google had to check with Fikri before returning its results." While quite progressive, Fikri also revered old country traditions. Fikri enjoyed cooking (making laban, kibbee and grape leaves), but always the Marjeyouni way.  He was also a lifelong member of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church.

Fikri was proceeded in death by his parents, and siblings. While he did not have children, he is survived by many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends who he loved dearly and spoke with regularly though they lived on four different continents.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nadim Nimeh, and Dr. Nabila ElZind for her friendship and care over the past several years.

A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery, 2201 NW Fort Sill Blvd., Lawton, Ok, on Wednesday February 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will be under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Rene Moawad Foundation, a DC based 501c3, which provides direct humanitarian aid to those suffering in Lebanon. https://rmfusa.org/product/rmf-general-donation/
