Funeral service for Essie "Ann" Cameron, 69, Lawton, will be 1:30 pm Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Lawton, with Rev. Jimmy Lehew, Associate Pastor, Locust Grove Baptist Church, officiating. Mrs. Cameron died Saturday at her home. Burial will be in Hackberry Cemetery, South of Frederick, Oklahoma under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Lawton. "Ann" was born June 7, 1942 in Stringtown, Oklahoma to Albert and Nancy (Perkins) Blankenship. At age three the family moved to an area known as "Where cotton meets wheat" near Davidson, Oklahoma. She attended Victory School. Growing up in the country was a lifestyle she cherished. She spoke fondly of playing in the cotton fields at Senns Valley Cotton Gin where her daddy worked. She chopped and picked cotton, climbed cotton bales and trees and loved to play "hide & seek" in the tall wheat fields. She said country living was fun with hard work but a very simple life that never left her heart. She married Donald Childs on October 19, 1962 and from that marriage came a life full of children and beautiful memories. Music, dancing, rodeos, laughing and loving family were her favorites. She worked as a waitress at her daddy's café in Davidson that led to a career in the restaurant business. She managed the "Big Chef" for several years and she knew her way around a kitchen. On February 22, 2000 she married John Cameron in Bullhead City, Arizona, and then moved to Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. They traveled and saw things she had never seen before. Our beautiful green eyed lady will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband of the home; three sons, Dion Childs and wife Eunice, Highland, California, Ronald Childs and wife Misty, Box Springs, Georgia, and Tommy Childs and wife Enjoli, Altus, Oklahoma; two daughters, Donelda Petro and husband Charles, Lawton, and Mary Gras and husband Michael, Snyder, Oklahoma; sixteen grandchildren, Charles Petro III, Heath Petro, Andrew Petro, Nickolas Petro, Crystal Gilley, Michael Gras Jr., Mardi Gras, Cristen Edgar, Tommy Childs Jr., Isaac Childs, Tiffany Childs, Ethan Childs, Olivia Rivers, Gabrielle Rivers, Richard Loney and Ryan Loney; ten great grandchildren; mother in law, Marie Cameron, Kitchner, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Joe Blankenship & wife Dorothy, Kansas City, Missouri and Ray Blankenship and wife Junita, Altus, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mary Moore, and Nancy Brown and husband Bill, all of Frederick, Oklahoma; brother in law, Doug Cameron and wife Cathy, Kitchner, Ontario, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
